A Time Capsule on the Honolulu Harbor

Stepping into La Mariana Restaurant & Bar feels like wandering into a black-and-white photograph that suddenly burst into color. Tucked away on the edge of the industrial Keehi Lagoon, this waterfront relic is a rare survivor of old Hawaii. The interior is a labyrinth of salvaged tiki carvings, hand-carved furniture, and glass fishing floats salvaged from the legendary Trader Vic’s and Don the Beachcomber’s. You aren't just coming for a meal; you are stepping into a mid-century sanctuary that feels entirely detached from the high-rise bustle of Waikiki.

Island Comforts and Potent Libations

The menu leans heavily into local comfort food, with the kalua pig and cabbage serving as a consistent crowd favorite for those craving authentic, slow-cooked island flavors. If you’re visiting for sunset, the Mai Tais are non-negotiable. They are notoriously strong—perfectly crafted for sipping while the light fades over the masts of the docked sailboats outside. The air here carries a faint, pleasant mix of salt spray and the char from the kitchen, a sensory reminder of the harbor location.

The Quirk of the Lagoon

Be prepared for the journey; the restaurant is tucked deep into an industrial boatyard, which can make you feel like you’ve taken a wrong turn until the tiki torches finally come into view. It’s loud, sometimes a bit chaotic, and refreshingly unpolished. This is the spot for the nostalgic traveler, the boat enthusiast, or anyone looking to escape the polished resort experience. Don’t expect white-glove service—expect to be treated like an old friend in a place that refuses to change for the sake of trends.

The best part about this place is the atmosphere. And don't get me wrong - the view is absolutely amazing and the location is prime. That being said, if you truly love tiki, this is not the place. The drinks are fine, but they are not authentic tiki. Without naming names, check around the islands and you are bound to find something with much more authentic traditional cocktails. We did not try the food, but everything looked and sounded nice, but we were underwhelmed by the cocktails and decided to head somewhere else for dinner.

Easily one of the coolest Tiki bars I've ever been to! When on a Friday night they had a few local musicians playing music which made for a good time and sunset cocktails!! We didn't dine, but the food from the next table looked and smelled very nice!

This is as close as you will find to a true Tiki Bar! It’s far off the beaten path next to a small marina. Not too many tourists venture here. PROS: Fantastic vibe and atmosphere. Might be a bit toooo authentic if you’re looking for a touristy thing. OK food. Friendly staff. Friendly cat named Meow Meow too! It’s far away from the main tourist areas so you don’t have to deal with that. Right next to a marina so if you’re a boater then that’s also fun to look at. CONS: It’s far away, but like I said above, that might be a good thing too. Their food is decent at best. Pretty basic but tasty. We battled flies but were sitting under their patio area right next to the water. They brought a fly propeller thing that helped. Parking could be a challenge at times although we were here for lunch and it was easy. ATTENTION: If you are tall (6’ or taller) you risk hitting your head everywhere! Be careful! Super low ceilings and doors. This is a very fun, authentic Tiki bar the likes of which you won’t find elsewhere. It’s original enough and old enough that it has an air of authenticity that an artificially, purposefully designed place aimed at tourists can’t achieve. Check them out if you’re in the area and you’ll have a fun time!

This is a tiki bar- but you won't get a '44 mai tai. La Mariana's signature mai tai is great though. :) Food & atmosphere & entertainment are all excellent. We caught The Kokonut Crew on Saturday night.

The prome rib was pretty good. Old style, historical tiki bar. Drinks were really strong. The entertainment was outstanding. The Kokonut Krew were amazing.

Great for drink and ambience! The food was good, we had shrimp scampi & a burger with a coconut shrimp appetizer. The zombie Mai Tais were so good! Staff was nice, we came on a Saturday when the Coconut Crew was playing live music. This is a great venue if you want that Hawaiian Vacation feel with great cocktails by the way water!

The ultimate tiki bar vibe. Right on the water views as a sailboats. Food is excellent everything from full on entrées to sandwiches and burgers. Lotta people like to eat at the bar. Has several artifacts from other tiki rooms from around the Hawaiian islands. Was the filming location of the original Rick‘s bar in Magnum PI as well as a couple of other TV shows. It’s very vintage. Fantastic cocktail menu.

Classic-style Tiki bar here in Honolulu, but not a good value. Two different bartenders served me two different "Ship Wrecked" cocktails that were not even close to being the same except both very watered down. The Kalua Pork Nachos were cold and dry. The only thing good for me was Onion Rings and the decor. Both bartenders were more interested in chatting with locals than service for the rest of us. No air conditioning..so hot inside. Yet people will pack this because of its legend. Not a good value. Can be difficult to find. Free parking.

Great food, service, and drinks. Here for a visit and a colleague recommended the place. He said the zombie had fairly earned it's reputation. I had the Mahi burger with onion rings, a blue Hawaiian, and a zombie. Excellent all around.

Keep driving. Do not go to this restaurant. I'm legitimately baffled by the 4.4 stars here. Wanted this place to be great. Service is terrible. I'll admit we had a large party. However, the restaurant was not busy at all. The server came to us and took a drink order. The drinks showed up 35 minutes later. The waitress came and took my empty glass after one drink and never asked if I wanted anything else. I drank water, which ended up being the best part of the meal. Food all came out an hour and a half later, which was cold. The steak has zero seasoning and was less than 1/2 inch thick. The server literally slammed my daughter's plate down on the table in front of her after she was unable to take the plate from her fast enough. There's zero vibe, no hospitality, no air conditioning, and no reason to ever return.
