About
The Art of the Tijuana-Style Dip
Tucked away in the vibrant Kaka'ako district, La Birria has become a local obsession for those craving the authentic, deep flavors of Tijuana-style birria. The process is a labor of love; the beef is slow-cooked for hours until it reaches that perfect, fall-apart consistency, then seared on a hot flat-top grill to achieve a crispy edge that contrasts beautifully with the soft, consommé-soaked tortilla.
The Sensory Experience
Follow the scent of toasted corn and warming chiles toward their popular food truck setup. You’ll hear the sizzle of the griddle long before you reach the window. Their signature quesabirria tacos are an exercise in controlled chaos—dripping with rich, savory broth and loaded with melting cheese that stretches with every bite. The consommé, served in a side cup for heavy-duty dunking, is aromatic, dark, and carries a subtle kick of spice that lingers.
Local Vibe and Tips
This is casual street food at its peak, perfectly suited for a quick lunch break or a late-afternoon snack while exploring the nearby street art murals. It’s an open-air dining experience, so don’t be surprised if you end up eating standing up or leaning against a nearby wall. The popularity of these tacos means lines can snake around the block during peak hours, and while parking in this part of Honolulu can be a bit of a scramble, the payoff—a warm, messy, and incredibly flavorful meal—is well worth the trouble. Bring napkins; you will definitely need them.

I think they have one of the better Birria Tacos on island for a decent price. I'd love to eat here more often, but I've found myself circling Chinatown looking for parking and I cannot justify paying $7 for an hour when I'm trying to get a $15 lunch... Regardless, excellent tacos, poor location. Wish I could go more often!

There is some pretty unfair 1 star reviews here for these guys. The front door to my luxury condo building is 20 paces away. Within 1 block, there are a dozen nice trendy bars, restaurants, and shops. If you can’t handle being in the presence of homeless people, this whole state is not for you. They’re everywhere. This is not a fine dining restaurant, it’s a taco place.. And hands down, absolutely the best tacos I’ve ever had anywhere. Tj, San Diego, LA, Texas… etc. Best I’ve had. Bravo fellas

Early days for this location. Came in around 11:15am. Great food. No A/C currently, but service was quick. The three tacos were so ono with the consume. The side ramen for the consume after was great. Strawberry horchata was delicious and refreshing. 10/10 would recommend.
