Kuhio Beach Grill
About
Breakfast with a View of the Pacific
Located right where the pulse of Waikiki meets the shoreline, Kuhio Beach Grill serves as a high-altitude lookout over the famous surf breaks. As you step into the dining room, the salt-tinged breeze mixes with the aroma of freshly brewed Kona coffee and sizzling island-style breakfast meats. It is an ideal spot for visitors who want to fuel up before a morning of beach-hopping without wandering far from the sands of Honolulu.
A Local Morning Ritual
The breakfast buffet is the main event here. You will find a rotating spread that leans into local favorites—expect fluffy macadamia nut pancakes that disappear as quickly as the kitchen staff can restock them, alongside steamed rice and miso soup for those who prefer a traditional Hawaiian-style start to the day. The dining room is expansive, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that capture the shifting blues of the ocean. It gets quite bright as the sun climbs over the horizon, so you might find yourself reaching for your sunglasses even while seated indoors.
The Waikiki Experience
While the pace can get frantic during the morning rush—common for any hotel-adjacent spot in this busy stretch of Kuhio Avenue—the staff keeps the coffee flowing steadily. It is not a place for a quiet, intimate whisper, but rather a vibrant, sun-drenched space that captures the fast-paced energy of Waikiki. Whether you are packing a bag for a catamaran excursion or heading toward the nearby Diamond Head trails, this grill provides a reliable, scenery-heavy beginning to your day in Honolulu.

A few months ago, I stayed at the Waikiki Beach Marriott for the 2nd time. One of the highlights of my stay was dining at the Kuhio Beach Grill. This restaurant provides a relaxed yet refined dining experience with a view of the beach offering a front-row seat to Waikiki’s sunrises if you're having breakfast. The breakfast is generous and very well thought out in terms of variety, but the true standouts are the sticky buns and the POG (pineapple, orange, & guave) juice. The sticky buns are warm and not overly sweet, but just enough to feel like a guilty pleasure. Sticky buns and POG are a great way to start the day.

Kuhuio Beach Grill is located within Waikiki Beach Marriott Hotel. We had breakfast buffet at the restaurant. While they do have a wide selection of food, the price was quite steep - $48 plus tax ! (In 2024). Hey had omelette station. Sticky Bun we were told to try was delicious; but a little too sweet. Daisy who took care of us was friendly and helpful.

Breakfast was delicious ! Didn't have a chance to try the buffet, but the Big Kahuna Breakfast and Egg White with Sausage was the perfect amount of food.

Breakfast buffet - overpriced, even for Hawaii. $31. for a continental breakfast, which includes the omelet station or $48. for the complete buffet. The omelet was great, everything else was just average. It took 8 minutes to get a cup of coffee after I sat down. The coffee cups are also very small, and it is difficult to get a refill. A highlight was that I go a to-go coffee.

If you are an elite Marriott bonvoy member, breakfast is free for higher levels. We had breakfast every day while staying at hotel. Our servers kept our drinks filled and empty dishes clear from table. Kudos to that staff of servers, Daisy and Madonna. Exemplary service from our omelet chef (Chuck)after the first day there, knew exactly what we liked and would cook the dishes without us asking and bring it to our table.

The breakfast buffet is extensive, expensive, and borderline an embarrassment of riches, despite missing smoked salmon, a staple and a popular option at all fancy breakfast buffets. They open at 5 am, which is unusual for an establishment on Waikiki Beach. Sit by the window and you'll get an amazing view of the Pacific.
