A Refreshing Waikiki Morning Ritual

Finding a reliable breakfast spot in the heart of Waikiki can be a challenge, but Koko at Kalia offers a calm escape just steps away from the iconic shoreline. This bright, airy dining space serves as a go-to for guests at the Ilikai Hotel and those wandering through the Kalia Road area who want to avoid the frantic pace of the main tourist strips.

The Flavor of the Islands

The menu leans heavily into local breakfast staples with a contemporary twist. The signature Portuguese Sausage Omelet is a must-try, perfectly balancing savory, smoky notes with the fluffiness of fresh island eggs. If you are leaning toward something sweet, the macadamia nut pancakes arrive with a generous drizzle of coconut syrup that smells like a tropical vacation. Expect the sound of clinking silverware against ceramic plates and the occasional hum of espresso machines fueling the morning crowd.

What to Know Before You Go

This is a place for early risers and those looking for a laid-back meal before hitting the beach. While the service is efficient, the space can get quite busy during the weekend rush, so be prepared to wait a few minutes for a table. Parking in the surrounding Waikiki blocks can be tricky, so if you are driving, check the nearby garage options ahead of time. Whether you are grabbing a quick bite before a catamaran cruise or settling in for a slow morning with a newspaper, Koko at Kalia hits the right notes for a classic Honolulu breakfast experience.

Koko at Kalia is one of those places that truly never disappoints, and after coming here for years, it remains a reliable and enjoyable breakfast spot inside the Hale Koa Resort. Consistency is the biggest strength here, the food is always fresh, well prepared, and served in a relaxed setting that feels perfect for starting the day in Hawaii. Breakfast has always been the highlight, with a solid buffet that offers a good variety of classic favorites and lighter options. Everything tastes fresh and well executed, which is not always guaranteed with resort buffets. During the COVID-19 period, Koko at Kalia temporarily offered an à la carte menu, and that was honestly a great option. Being able to order a simple plated breakfast each morning was convenient and enjoyable, especially for guests who didn’t want a full buffet every day. While that option is no longer available, the buffet remains very good and continues to deliver consistent quality. Pricing is reasonable for a resort location, especially in Honolulu. Expect to pay around $25–26 per adult for breakfast, with pricing varying slightly depending on age and military rank, which makes it a solid value compared to many nearby hotel dining options. You can actually eat here if you are active military/guard/reserve without being a guest at the resort and take advantage of the relaxed pace, this is not a rushed dining experience. If you’re staying at the Hale Koa, the convenience alone makes it worth returning multiple mornings. I cant understand the quality and ambience of this place! Overall, Koko at Kalia remains a dependable, satisfying breakfast choice that rewards repeat visits. Even without the à la carte option, it continues to deliver fresh food, fair pricing, and a comfortable resort atmosphere that keeps us coming back year after year

Researched before going. It says veterans can eat there. Showed my driver's license to the hostess wich shows proof I'm an army veteran. She acted like it wasn't real. Said "I'll let you in this one time". Food was just ok. Def won't be going back.

Breakfast Buffet located at the Hale Koa Hotel. Affordable, for military and retired guests and hotel guests, less than $30 with ocean views and your common breakfast buffet. We came at the perfect time on a Friday morning before 8am and before the rush arrived. We got a nice outdoor table with the views of the ocean and outside, there are nets so birds can get in. You can order drinks and smoothies for a charge. There is an omelette station and I think you can request special plates, but overall it’s a traditional continental breakfast buffet with salmon eggs benedict, French toast, and some Hawaiian dishes too. Located at the Kalia side of the towers on the side where check in is. The parking garage is across the street from the hotel. You can also charge to your room or pay there, I think my parents got a senior citizen discount. Convenient if you’re staying at this hotel.

Food was great lot of great options. Seafood was relatively good for the price not many places you can get all you can eat crap. Great food for the price. Service was great always making sure we had refills and was taking the plates. Over all great experience glad we came here.

I’ve been here many times (last time 10 years ago), and it is nice to see that the food and service are just as good (maybe better) as I remember. ROZS was our server, fun and attentive…Thanks for a great breakfast our last morning! We will be back.

Koko at Kalia is a fantastic dining option, but keep in mind that you do have to be a resort guest or have a military ID to eat there. If you have access, it is absolutely worth the visit. They have a great selection of food, and I love that there are slight differences in the menu depending on what day you go. It keeps the variety fresh if you are staying for a few days. The quality is consistently high and everything we tried was delicious. My biggest tip for anyone visiting is to always ask to sit outside. The atmosphere is much better and it really completes the dining experience. Between the food quality and the beautiful setting, it is an easy five stars.

Kiki is a good choice for breakfast. Fresh cooked omelette or eggs, a wide variety of breakfast selections but for practical reasons you won’t find everything. The service was excellent and friendly and seating is comfortable. I recommend it.

$28 and only LIPTON tea?! Had to bring my own English Breakfast Tea. Shabby furnishings and decor. Very disappointing buffet. Not kept clean and tidy

An excellent breakfast! I was a little hesitant to go to a generic buffet while vacationing in Hawaii, but it was quite excellent all around. Even had some more local food options. Something for everyone (we had three kids with us). If you’re staying at the Hale Koa I do recommend. You can also try to request a table with the best view. 🌴🏖️
