A Morning Staple in the Heart of Kaimuki

When you find yourself roaming the streets of Kaimuki, the scent of sizzling bacon and fluffy buttermilk griddle cakes acts as a natural magnet toward this Honolulu institution. Koa Pancake House has long served as the neighborhood’s go-to spot for a no-fuss, hearty morning meal. The atmosphere is unpretentious and buzzing with the chatter of regulars, making it the ideal setting for those who prefer their breakfast with a side of local flavor rather than white-tablecloth service.

Island-Style Comfort on a Plate

The menu leans heavily into Hawaii-inspired breakfast classics. Their signature macadamia nut pancakes are the star, arriving at the table golden brown and topped with a generous sprinkle of toasted nuts that offer a satisfying crunch against the soft, airy batter. If you are leaning toward something savory, the loco moco is a heavy-hitter, pairing a thick hamburger patty with a perfectly fried egg and rich, savory gravy over a bed of steamed white rice.

Practical Dining Tips for Kaimuki Visitors

Be prepared for the energy of a busy local diner. Service is snappy and efficient, though the space can get quite loud during the weekend rush. One minor quirk to keep in mind is that parking in this historic district can be a bit of a puzzle, so arrive early or be prepared to walk a few blocks if the small lot is full. Whether you are fueling up for a day of exploring Honolulu or just looking for a reliable breakfast spot that gets the basics right every single time, this outpost on 12th Avenue delivers a consistent, authentic taste of island comfort.

This little place is absolutely a must go to. I had the meat lovers omelet, yes I'm a carnivore, and it was one of the best omelets I've ever had, and I've had a lot. The pancakes and eggs Benedict are also delicious. Pay a few bucks more for the fresh squeezed orange juice. It's like eating a fresh orange but thru a straw, so good.

This restaurant is near Diamondhead and absolutely worth your stop. First of all, they have fresh squeezed orange juice, which is amazing. Second, the portion sizes were excellent for the money – especially considering the cost of a good family meal in Hawaii. The overall food quality was great too.

Today I got to try the Spam, Eggs & Rice Plate with coffee and found it to be compatible to the Zippy's, good. Also, the service was very friendly and helpful.

Nice place, what I liked: - fast and kind service - order and pay at your table via app What I didn’t like: - paper/plastic plates, cutlery - no much details about the food in the app Overall I would recommend for a quick bite. You might find parking along the street, but there’s a paid parking lot just around the corner.

Very popular (crowded) but worth it. The food is always delicious. We got banana pancakes, eggs Benedict, and several breakfast platters. The wait can be extensive during peak hours but the staff is very communicative and helpful. Parking is simple and plentiful too. I really love the walk up/order option!

You can really tell the difference when the fruit is at its ripe. The juice was incredibly sweet and refreshing, with none of that sharp acidity you sometimes get. It paired perfectly with the richness of the pancakes.

I love having breakfast here and there’s so many options! It’s open seating so You can order at the counter to get a number then sit anywhere you like and put the number on the holders. OR you can sit down and order and pay from the QR code on each table. The staff is always friendly and they bring you your food when it’s ready. There are condiments on the table to use and foil in the front of you want to take it home. I recommend the fresh orange juice!

A solid four star experience. You can’t beat the price point to food quality ratio. The pancakes were fluffy and delicious. Surprisingly the homestyle potatoes had quite a bit of flavoring and we’re cooked perfectly. My husband really enjoyed his breakfast burrito. It was a quiet clean unassuming spot for a quick cheap breakfast before starting the day. They have a pretty good early bird menu as well.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ KOA Pancakes – Hawai‘i Love the Macadamia Pancakes and the Loco Moco Koa Pancakes is an absolute gem! The food is fresh, delicious, and served with the kind of welcoming aloha spirit that makes the whole experience unforgettable. Everything came out fast, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor — easily one of the best breakfast spots in Hawai‘i. A big plus is the convenience: the public parking right next to the restaurant is only $0.75 per hour and accepts credit cards, which makes visiting super easy. Just like Koa itself, no cash is needed — they accept cards and Apple Pay, making the whole process smooth from start to finish. If you’re looking for great food, great service, and a hassle-free visit, Koa Pancakes should be at the top of your list. Highly recommended! 🌺🥞✨

Was perfect for brunch! Koa burrito was the perfect size and composition. Guava lava mochi waffle was delicious. Daughter hates regular breakfast food so she super appreciated the fried rice. Food came out hot, fresh, and satisfying 😌 Best prices we've experienced in Hawaii as well. Def recommend🤍
