A Slice of Mid-Century Polynesian Nostalgia

Walking into Ko Tiki Terrace feels like stepping back into the golden age of Waikiki. Located right in the heartbeat of Honolulu, this spot captures the essence of classic tropical lounging. The air is thick with the scent of fresh lime and toasted coconut, while the rhythmic percussion of exotica music plays softly over the chatter of locals and travelers alike. It is the kind of place where you lose track of the sunset while nursing a drink adorned with a paper umbrella.

Crafting the Ultimate Mai Tai

The bartenders here treat cocktail preparation as a serious craft. Their signature Mai Tai isn’t just a tourist staple; it features a specific blend of aged rums that provides a rich, nutty finish missing from most island bars. If you want something sharper, their house-made lilikoi syrup adds a bright, tart contrast to the heavier spirits on the menu. The presentation is theatrical, with ceramic mugs sculpted into weathered deities and foliage-heavy garnishes that make every glass look like a piece of art.

A Local Perspective

While the drinks are stellar, be prepared for a lively, energetic atmosphere that can get quite loud once the evening rush hits. Seating is intimate, sometimes feeling a bit cozy, which makes it perfect for a date night or a small group of friends looking to escape the more commercial resort bars. It is a fantastic choice if you appreciate authentic tiki culture rather than polished, corporate hotel service. Keep in mind that parking in this part of Honolulu can be a challenge, so catching a ride or walking from your nearby stay is often the smartest move.

Funky tiki bar. Friendly service. $10 mai tai is a bargain in Waikiki. The standard drink was sweet, but the bartender offered to make one using the Trader Vic’s recipe on my next visit.

I’m torn about this place, but i think it’s a MUST VISIT at least once kind of place, because it’s one of the few “classic old Waikiki vibe” locations and those places are magic and NEVER coming back. I see the food is decent but menu is limited since it’s just one main food from one specific eatery. I like the non-alcoholic drinks. I say it’s worth a visit. Nice and hidden. Not sure about the pool but the restaurant is actually not affiliated with the hotel, interestingly enough.

I had to wait for this tray for 45 minutes, I had a steak, but I had to eat the veins and fat, not the meat, this little plate cost me $40, I don't want to come here anymore.

After walking by this place on Kuhio for years...we finally stopped by this boutique hotel...Bamboo. After passing through the retro lobby we entered the very-retro pool area to find "pool side" dining. Very friendly staff. The pool area looks amazing at night. Hotel guests even using the pool and spa while others are dining. Some of the tables are made of amazing Koa wood. Prices are very reasonable...ala cart, bowl or plate. Pick your protein then sides. The sampler appetizer was great. My steak was very tasty. However, after tasting my wife's shrimp...that's what I'll order next time. Awesome casual meal. I would highly recommend the dining experience. And now the rest of the story...we went back a few nights later and I did order the shrimp...and I'm so glad I did, just amazing. We spent some time chatting with Amber, who is managing the place. I was asking if I could bring my own booze since they did not serve and and she said...absolutely. The only catch is they must pour it into plastic because it is around the pool. Skip the bubblies. They have been working the last couple of years to get their liquor license...but no luck yet (Honolulu politics). Second visit was just as wonderful as the first.

The food was delicious, steak was well cooked, salad dressing was on point and Potato Salad was excellent. Pool vibes were cool especially as it got darker. Staff was very nice Service was fast Shocked this place wasn’t packed. If you are looking for a tasty meal in Waikiki, highly recommend.

The definition of a hidden gem 💎 It’s really easy to miss, since it’s located next to a small hotel pool, and the entrance is through the hotel lobby, but boy am I happy that I found it! The food is great, and the fries might be the best fries I’ve had in my life, definitely the best I’ve had in the last few years (I think they air fry them for the second fry, but can’t know for certain). The food is not cheap, but it’s on par with the area, and the portions are large. As of late January 2022, they still haven’t received their liquor license, so there is a BYOB policy in place (no glass bottles), that can either make or break the whole experience, depending on what you are looking for. Personally, I enjoyed it. And to top it off the service was also great! Highly recommend!

The crispy fries were some of the best I've had. We also got the world famous garlic shrimp and grilled mackerel. I'd recommend both! Portions are large, especially the fries. Restaurant is BYOB and has a pool in the middle. Staff is super friendly. Prices reasonable.

From Belgium. I am a bit torn about this place. Our experience was not bad but it could be unpleasant depending on your expectations as well as the crowd. This restaurant is basically connected to a hotel pool and hot tub and I am sure your experience can be altered by those who are using the facilities since. As we were leaving a bunch of younger adults were showing up with alcohol and music. The area is dark and they can bring little table lights so that you can see the menu and food. That is actually makes for a nice vibe, romantic even. This place is also bring your own booze despite some of the online images showing the shelves stocked with alcohol. We ended up running over to a store and grabbed some cocktails for dinner. The staff were friendly and helpful. I will say watching the server have a hookup come to his work place was a bit of a turn off. He did forget something we ordered and we wondered if that was the reason. He did apologise and offered to bring the dish. He also recommended a nice poke like dish that was actually quite good, all the food was done well and had good flavour.
