A Slice of Hong Kong in the Heart of Honolulu

Stepping into King's Tea feels like a swift departure from the tropical humidity of Oahu into the bustling, clatter-filled tea houses of Kowloon. This local gem specializes in authentic Hong Kong-style comfort food, anchoring itself as a staple for those craving traditional dim sum without the ceremony of white-tablecloth service.

Savor the Cantonese Classics

The menu centers on scratch-made staples. You will find their Hong Kong-style milk tea is the main attraction, brewed with a specific blend of tea leaves that yields a silky, robust profile perfectly balanced by evaporated milk. Pair this with their steaming baskets of har gow or the savory, crispy exterior of their pan-fried turnip cakes. The scent of bamboo steamers and roasted meats greets you the moment you cross the threshold, creating an immediate, visceral craving.

The Neighborhood Tea House Energy

Located conveniently for those traversing the city, the atmosphere is strictly no-frills and high-energy. It is the kind of spot where the ceiling fans hum constantly and the sound of Cantonese chatter fills the room. Be prepared for a lively, occasionally cramped experience—especially during the weekend rush—as locals crowd in for their fix of congee and pineapple buns. It is an unpretentious environment best suited for casual mid-day fueling or a quick, satisfying breakfast before exploring the nearby urban core of Honolulu.

Local Tip

While the service is fast-paced and efficient, keep in mind that parking in this part of the city can require a bit of patience. Bring a friend, order a spread to share, and enjoy the authentic, steam-filled hustle that makes King's Tea a standout for island residents seeking a genuine taste of Hong Kong heritage.

I am really not the type to jump on the internet to write a review, however the experience was disappointing. I noticed the new opening of the boba shop so I wanted to give it a try. I walked in and the associate was on his laptop with a headset, probably playing games or something (he must've been bored, idk whatever). Anyways I didn't mind that. I looked up at the top drinks section and saw the drink "Kings Milk Tea" (I wish I took a picture - posted a pic that's online) which basically looked like a brown sugar milk tea with cheese foam topping and a lot of other toppings (boba, lychee jelly, popping boba, etc.) inside. I received my drink that looked like just plain milk tea with almost a half cup of toppings in it. It looked nothing like the picture on the top left of the TOP DRINKS board. I thought okay, maybe he mixed it in to the drink. So I took a sip out of it and it was plain milk tea with an absurd amount of toppings. I went back to the counter and kindly explained that I ordered the Kings Milk tea, shouldn't there be toppings on top with brown sugar like shown on the board. He says, "oh you have to pay extra for that". At that moment I was unhappy with the false advertisement. I kindly asked if he can make me a new one or refund me. He said no, and had the nerve to ask me, "do you mind just paying for another one?" I was so upset and just left the store. I think that is just very poor customer service, especially worse when it hasn't been that long since opening up the store. I saw good reviews about the store which geared me to trying it out however, sorry to say, this is a store I will never try again.

10/27/23 - It's definitely my new favorite spot to buy fruit smoothies and shakes. Strawberry banana is really good! Not too sweet and not bland at all. The fruits are not overpowering each other. You can taste the strawberries and the bananas evenly. Service is great as well! The owner is very friendly and really sweet and so is her staff. I strongly recommend you guys try this place. It's cozy and not busy. Also, because they use real fruits, they take their time to make it so be patient, it's definitely worth it.

One of my favorite boba tea spot in town! There's a buy 2 free 1 promotion until Dec 2, 2023! The aesthetic of the store makes me feel like I'm in Asia, the boba is homemade and the texture was perfect. The owner is super friendly and kind - I came about 8 mins from closing time prepared to be turned away but they still welcomed me, took my order without complaint. I liked the feeling of helping local businesses instead of a chain restaurant, because you can feel the passion of the people in every detail of the store. I like that it's not crowded and has plenty of seating. Love love love this place, will definitely come again!
