Kim's Korean BBQ
About
Sizzle and Spice in the Heart of Kaimuki
Stepping into Kim's Korean BBQ feels less like a formal dinner and more like visiting a relative’s kitchen in Honolulu. The air is perpetually filled with the delicious aroma of charred galbi and garlic-heavy marinades. Unlike the polished, high-end spots downtown, this neighborhood fixture prioritizes substance over shine.
The Art of the Table-Side Grill
The star of the show here is undoubtedly the kalbi, sliced thin and marinated in a balanced, house-made blend that avoids being overly syrupy. You’ll hear the rhythmic clinking of metal tongs against the grill grates, a constant soundtrack that underscores the energetic atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where your clothes might pick up a faint hint of woodsmoke, but the depth of flavor in their banchan—especially the fresh, crunchy kimchi—makes it entirely worth it.
This is a spot meant for groups who don’t mind a bit of elbow-to-elbow contact. The space is efficient and cozy, and while the parking situation in this corner of the city can be a minor hurdle, the reward is a no-frills, authentic dining experience that captures the true essence of Korean comfort food. Whether you are a local resident craving a weekday staple or a visitor looking to escape the tourist traps, the generous portions and attentive service define the rhythm of the meal. Don't leave without trying the spicy pork, which carries a steady, lingering heat that pairs perfectly with a cold beverage.

There was paper in my kim chi. For $30 and a small portion - you would think they would not fill it with paper to look like cabbage.

We got a Kalbi / BBQ chicken plate - we got 2 pieces of Kalbi and this was the amount of chicken we got for about $25... We ordered 4 plates, and the quantity of the food was shameful. I wish I took photos of the other plates as well. The choisum was complete mush, the cucumbers tasted watery and the potatoes were way overcooked and a mushy mess.

SO GOOD DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!!! Truly one of our favorite meals we have had during our 2 month stay, best Kal Bi beef/bbq chicken on the island and best we’ve ever had- we know Korean food well. We ordered the number 10, love that you can choose 4 sides. Sabrina at the counter was so helpful and gave us sauces. We enjoyed our meal on the picnic tables next to the marina. Thank goodness Kona had a line, we agreed Kim’s BBQ was way better than whatever Kona would have served. 10/10 and highly recommend!
