Kent's Drive Inn
About
A Kalihi Staple for Local Comfort
Stepping into Kent's Drive Inn in the heart of Kalihi feels like taking a shortcut to the past. This isn't a place for fancy plating or white tablecloths; it’s an authentic Honolulu institution where the scent of char-grilled beef and deep-fryer oil hangs heavy in the air, signaling that serious comfort food is in progress. The steady hum of orders being called out and the clatter of plastic trays define the soundscape here, serving as a reminder that this is where the locals actually eat.
What to Expect on Your Tray
The menu remains loyal to the classic Hawaiian drive-in tradition. Most regulars come here with one mission: the Mochiko Chicken. It’s crispy, slightly sweet, and perfectly salty, often served in generous portions that pair effortlessly with their signature macaroni salad—which, if you know the local standard, is perfectly creamy and chilled. If you are feeling particularly hungry, the mixed plates are legendary for their size. Be warned, the parking lot can be a tight squeeze during the lunch rush, and you might have to navigate around a few lifted trucks, but that’s just part of the Kalihi experience.
Why Make the Trip?
Kent’s is best suited for those who prioritize substance over polish. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick lunch after a morning surf or fueling up before heading into downtown Honolulu, this spot delivers consistent, no-nonsense island favorites. It is the ideal destination for anyone looking to bypass the tourist-heavy chains and taste the flavor profile that defines local Oahu dining—simple, affordable, and incredibly filling.

I'm from South Central Los Angeles. This is the Chinese food I grew up on. The flavor, the portions. Only thing missing was the flimsy Styrofoam container.

Craig K. This is where I go when I am hungry. Huge portions and tasty too. Even if I'm hungry I still cannot finish and have leftovers for the next day. The Hamburger taste like Homemade. Mostly everything on the menu is good. Susan is kind and friendly. She is the Lady that cooks all the delicious food.

I really enjoy the plate lunches here. The food is tasty and the price is cheap. Portions are large so a mini usually fills me up. It is important to know that this place is cash only so make sure you hit an atm first. The closest atm is in the liquor store in the cultural plaza.
