Play Meets Pastry in Kakaako

Stepping into Keiki and the Pineapple feels less like entering a traditional cafe and more like walking into a thoughtfully curated wonderland designed specifically for Hawaii’s youngest residents. Located in the heart of Honolulu’s vibrant Kakaako district, this space shifts the focus away from the typical adult-centric coffee shop mold. Instead, it prioritizes an immersive play environment where the air smells faintly of warm espresso and organic snacks, rather than the cloying scent of artificial toys.

A Mindful Menu for Little Explorers

The culinary philosophy here centers on wholesome, approachable items that cater to small appetites. You won’t find overly complex flavor profiles; instead, the menu features simple, high-quality ingredients that appeal to the discerning palates of toddlers and children. Parents can expect a refined coffee program that doesn’t sacrifice quality for convenience. While the little ones burn energy in the interactive play zones, adults often find themselves settling into the lounge areas, appreciative of a space that manages to be both stimulating for kids and genuinely relaxing for caregivers.

Design Notes

The aesthetic is clean, bright, and distinctly modern, avoiding the chaotic visual clutter common in many indoor playgrounds. The acoustic environment is notably lively—you will hear the rhythmic hum of laughter and play—so it is best suited for parents looking to socialize rather than those hoping for a silent remote-work hub. Because it serves as a neighborhood community center, parking in the bustling surrounding blocks can occasionally require a brief walk, so planning your arrival a few minutes early is a pro tip for visiting families. It remains a standout destination for Honolulu residents seeking a balanced environment where coffee culture and child development intersect seamlessly.

We had an excellent time at Keiki and the Pineapple today at their Santa Brunch! What a fantastic way to have a safe and fun interaction with Santa and enjoy some yummy food. We even got supplies to write Santa a letter and give it to him when he came to visit us at our table. Make sure to check out their sensory play kits - we got one of their home made play dough kits and our daughter loved being creative with it. We will be back for a play date soon.

K&P is a hidden oasis for parents and coffee lovers alike ! It is on Ward/Kapiolani Blvd (across the from Blaisdell) but it so obvious it can be easy to miss. They have a menu full of delcious drinks, toasts, breakfast foods, and my favorites are the brie toast, Buddha Bowl (I like it with avocado added and the Thai almond butter dressing is amazing), and overnight chia pudding. They have an indoor playpen for the kids and a huge dog friendly lanai for outdoor dining and events. They also have kiddy events and holiday photo booths throughout the year. The owner, Tiffany, is such a sweetheart and her staff are always gracious. They also support many local companies and artisans by selling items like baby food and adorable clothing and toys. I love the lattes too. Don't tell them I told you this, but the Brekkie for a Fiver is a steal! I usually upgrade it to a latte and add a shot for a couple more dollars. It is my go-to fuel for work but I think the deal ends at 9 am ;)

Great place for coffee and kids! Perfect place to bring your kids for a play date. They have a dedicated play area for kids with some toys and play mat. The menu selection is good as well. Service is warm and friendly. Definitely recommend for a play date with kids. P.S. - they require reservations during covid times. (We didn't have one but staff was very accommodating as they had an opening!). Please go online to make a reservationin advance if you plan on visiting.
