About
An Authentic Taste of Honolulu's Maritime Heritage
Tucked away from the high-rise glare of Waikiki, Kay's Fish Market serves as a local pillar for those seeking raw, unadulterated seafood. This isn't a place for white tablecloths or complex fusion experiments; it is a straightforward counter-service stop where the focus remains entirely on the quality of the catch. The air inside carries the crisp, clean scent of the ocean, mingled with the faint, savory aroma of house-made shoyu marinades.
The Poke Standard
The signature here is the sashimi-grade poke, prepared with a level of precision that explains why locals frequent this spot during their lunch break. You will find generous, hand-cut chunks of ahi that hold their texture, tossed in seasonings that highlight rather than mask the freshness of the fish. It is common to see a queue of regulars spilling out toward the sidewalk, a minor inconvenience that serves as an unofficial badge of quality for this neighborhood gem.
Who Should Visit
If you are a traveler looking to skip the tourist-trap buffets and instead eat how the residents of Honolulu eat, this is your destination. It is best suited for a quick, high-protein meal before heading to the beach or a casual afternoon pickup. Keep in mind that seating is limited, so most patrons opt for takeout to enjoy their bowls while watching the waves. The staff keeps the pace brisk, ensuring the fish moves from the case to your hands at peak freshness, upholding a reputation built on consistent, reliable seafood preparation in the heart of the city.

Found this place by accident. It is a neighborhood mom & pop store. The poke is ono. Poke is made with fresh fish. No frozen. Reasonably priced. The ahi limu poke was $14 a pound. Spicy ahi was $15 a pound. They have other items. Go check it out.
