Jagalchi Korean Restaurant
About
A Slice of Busan in the Heart of Honolulu
Stepping into Jagalchi Korean Restaurant feels like a quick trip to the bustling seafood markets of Busan. Tucked away within the vibrant culinary landscape of Honolulu, this spot captures the essence of traditional Korean home cooking without the pretense. The room hums with the steady clatter of metal chopsticks hitting stone bowls and the low rumble of conversation, creating an environment that feels lived-in and genuinely welcoming.
The Soul of the Menu
The kitchen leans heavily into bold, fermented profiles. You’ll find the kimchi stew bubbling with a fierce, spicy intensity that cuts right through the richness of the pork belly. Their approach to classic favorites like bibimbap and savory pancakes relies on time-tested techniques that prioritize depth of flavor over visual gimmicks. The banchan arrives in a steady stream, offering that satisfying mix of pickled radish, seasoned sprouts, and spicy greens that defines a proper Korean meal.
Know Before You Go
It is the kind of place where you come hungry and leave satisfied, though you might want to plan for a bit of a scramble if you are arriving during the peak dinner rush near the Ala Moana corridor. The parking situation can be a bit tight, common for popular local gems in this part of town, so patience is a virtue here. If you enjoy a meal that prioritizes authentic spice levels and a no-frills, high-energy dining room, this is your go-to destination. It’s perfect for groups of friends looking to share a few hearty platters or for anyone craving a genuine, unadulterated taste of Korea while exploring the islands.

Little pricy for korean food but it was good. You order on a tablet and you can call the wait staff from there if you need. The drinks were good but not that strong and a little on the sweet side. Will try others to see if it was just that one.

Came here for the first time in years. The restaurant definitely changed and is more upbeat. We ordered the Kalbi, Corn Cheese, 1/2 order of Bossam, Kimbap, Kimchi Jeon, and Meat Jun. Everything came out fast and freshly cooked to perfection. Every dish was flavorful and delicious. I wish the Bossam came with more veggies because the meat to veggie ratio wasn’t near equal. They don’t have white rice here and only have purple rice which tastes fine. Overall, a bit pricey, but food quality and portions are excellent. Staff are fast and super friendly. Lots of tables to dine at. Parking lot is a bit small.

Such a cool place to hang out and eat delicious food. I’ve been here twice and I’m pretty sure everything I had on the menu was amazing. Each dish is so tasty, and the portion size is huge. Great for sharing with friends or take some home. The restaurant has just the right amount of space, but the downside is definitely the limited parking. Still worth going!

A nice little Korean restaurant offering a limited but tasty menu. The kimchi stew tofu and seafood. Also tried their Seoul coffee. We came on Sunday so we had to wait about 45 min or so.

I stopped by today and tried their beef short ribs soup (galbitang) and I was very impressed. The taste was so "WOW" and it could not have been any better and I ended up eating it all and drank the whole soup to the last drop. The rice I received was japgopbap, a multigrain rice, and it really was so good. Moreover, the side dishes could not have been any better as with how they were presented and the great taste to each one. What impressed me further was the color pens on each table for the customers to leave some graffiti of their own, which reminded me of having seen some customer graffiti's at restaurants on k-dramas. This restaurant gave me the feeling of eating in one of the k-drama restaurants with a very nice atmosphere. Finally, the server was very helpful and super nice. This place is a gem.
