Island Vintage Shave Ice (2233 Kalakaua Ave)
About
A Refreshing Waikiki Staple
Steps away from the crashing waves of Waikiki Beach, Island Vintage Shave Ice serves as the ultimate cooldown after a sun-drenched afternoon. This isn't your typical carnival-style treat; the focus here is on authentic, house-made fruit syrups that skip the artificial, neon-colored aftertaste common elsewhere. You will catch the faint, sweet scent of lilikoi and fresh pineapple before you even reach the counter.
What to Order
The menu highlights local ingredients that define the flavor of Honolulu. The 'Heavenly Tropical' is the crowd favorite, layering finely shaved ice with organic mango, lilikoi, and guava syrups, topped with a generous dollop of creamy organic frozen yogurt or adzuki beans. The texture is remarkably fine, almost like freshly fallen snow, which allows the syrups to soak in completely rather than pooling at the bottom of the cup.
The Local Experience
Located right in the heart of the Royal Hawaiian Center along the main Kalakaua strip, the space keeps a high-energy, fast-moving pace. Be prepared for a queue, especially in the mid-afternoon heat; it is a popular spot for both visitors and locals taking a break from shopping. Seating is limited and communal, making it a great spot for people-watching the busy Honolulu crowds. Keep in mind that the ice melts quickly in the tropical humidity, so don't be surprised if your hands get a little sticky—it is simply part of the island ritual.

it gets very busy here so I came back at a later time when there was no line. this area is right here by the beach and it is soo yummy! I was not in a mood for shaved ice so I ended up ordering a lava shake and it's soo chocolatey and perfect if youre craving chocolate. the shaved ice is also delicious and beautiful!! I recommend coming here and giving it a try. the workers here also seemed so I appreciate that very much

I’ve been to the island before but this was my first time having shaved ice. This location is close to my hotel and I was very excited to go in and try. I got the coconut Island and it was so pretty and yummy. Again it was my first time so Im not sure how it was supposed to look, I added a picture so I’ll let you be the judge. Place was bright and clean. The reason I didn’t tip and didn’t give a full 5 stars is because the staff was rude and had a crusty attitude that even my teenage daughters noticed. I visited on the evening of 4/21/26. There was no “Welcome in” instead we were met with hostility. My Ice was slid over to me across the counter and the young lady turned her back after I said “Thank you”. This was a different girl from the rude girl at check out. If you don’t like your job/tourist then maybe you should quit!!

Good but definitely overrated. This place is much better than their other store on Waikiki which is always super crowded. The presentation the interior and the speed of service are all pretty good. Using spirulina as an algae food die to make the coconut blue that was really smart. The colorful syrup are made of real fruit. The ice cream sandwiched inside is very very creamy. But overall I think the flavor profile is not balanced at all, which is why I have it a four star - it is just a huge sugar bomb that is overtly sweet, I can't taste anything else. I think they should switch the strawberry to something else because I don't think that adds anything new to the pile.

Frozen taro is really good. Heavenly Lilikoi shave ice is probably the best. Gets busy but they have tables outside for seating as well. Tables are dirty, I wished they cleaned them, would’ve been a 5/5.

We waited 20 minutes for our shave iced. Flavors of the syrups were good, just not enough. Ice quality was great. Definitely better options around.

This is such good shaved ice. You need to go to places with natural flavours like they have here, and the fresh fruit, mochi and Bobo pearls on top really added to it. We had the tropical one and will be going back again!

Island Vintage Shave Ice is one of those classic Waikiki stops that leans touristy but still delivers. It is definitely on the pricey side for shave ice, but the quality is there. The flavors are good, the presentation is nice, and it feels a bit more elevated than your typical quick shave ice stand. It is also a great spot for kids. Bright colors, sweet flavors, and a fun treat in the middle of a busy Waikiki day make it an easy win for families. Overall Island Vintage Shave Ice is a bit of a splurge, but it is a solid option if you are in the area and want something refreshing that still tastes good.

Grabbed some shave ice at Island Vintage Shave Ice while strolling Waikiki. The shave ice itself was good—fluffy and flavorful, definitely solid quality. The shop's pretty large with nice indoor and outdoor seating options, which is a plus when you want to sit and enjoy instead of walking with it. Service was friendly, but it took a bit longer to get our order compared to some of the quicker spots around. They load up on custard more than other places I've tried—to each their own, but I usually come mostly for the ice, so it felt a little heavy on that. Their mochi is homemade, which is cool, but the pieces are pretty big. I prefer smaller bites that mix in easier. One thing that bugged me: no boards or TVs showing the menu up front, so you're standing there flipping through a handheld one while deciding. Would make the line move smoother if they had it displayed overhead. Overall, it was good and worth trying if you're in the area, but not my go-to on the Waikiki strip—plenty of other shave ice options that hit my preferences better.

Hands down the best shaved ice I’ve ever had. It was absolutely delicious and I’d eat 10 of these in one day if I could. Everyone in my family picked the rainbow Hawaiian shaved ice and we all enjoyed it very much. We were able to get it dairy free by taking out the ice cream and it was still just as good! Fresh fruit, fresh all natural flavors and no dyes! This mom was thrilled. Service was great, no wait when we walked in. 10/10
