Inaba Restaurant
About
Traditional Soba Craftsmen in the Heart of Waikiki
Stepping into Inaba feels less like a typical Honolulu dining experience and more like a quiet transition into a Tokyo noodle house. Tucked away within the bustling Waikiki district, this spot is dedicated to the meticulous art of handmade buckwheat soba. You can actually hear the rhythmic slicing of dough coming from the kitchen, a comforting, industrial sound that promises freshness before your first bite.
The Art of the Noodle
The menu centers on the craft of soba, served either chilled with a dashi-based dipping sauce or submerged in a steaming, savory broth. Chef Inaba’s commitment to quality is evident in the texture of the noodles—they possess a distinct, earthy bite that is hard to find elsewhere on the island. The tempura is another highlight; it arrives with a batter so light and aerated it shatters upon contact, highlighting the sweetness of fresh shrimp and seasonal vegetables. Pair your meal with a cold glass of sake from their curated selection to cut through the richness of the fried components.
A Local Perspective
The interior leans into minimalist Japanese aesthetics, prioritizing function and clean lines. It’s an ideal escape for solo travelers or those looking for an intimate, low-key dinner away from the loud tourist strips. A quick heads-up for those driving: parking in this section of the city can be notoriously tricky, so leave a little extra time to navigate the block. Whether you are craving a soothing bowl of hot udon or want to experience the cooling sensation of zaru soba, Inaba provides a grounded, authentic connection to Japanese culinary traditions in the middle of the Pacific.

If you’re looking for fresh sashimi and noodles, this is the place. The food is incredibly fresh, you can really taste the quality in both the fish and the noodles. Service was good and efficient, even when it gets busy. Definitely recommend!

Everytime I asked my Japanese clients which Japanese restaurant they enjoyed most in Honolulu, Inaba consistently came up. And now I know why. I finally had lunch here a couple weeks ago and damn was my tempura and soba set broke da mout. The soba is housemade with a chewy consistency that I love. I had it cold with the dipping sauce and wow wow wow. So good. My friends suggested I get the shrimp and vegetable tempura as well which amazingly stayed crispy the whole time I savored each bite. Probably 30 minutes. Light crisp batter on perfectly cooked shrimp and veggies. Damn it was good. The service was great as well and I cannot wait to go back. It gets busy during lunch and dinner, so get there early or make a reservation. Enjoy! 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

What a gem! Very pleased with this restaurant. Food is amazing. Everything we ordered was just on point. Tempura was light and crisp. Seasoned well. We ordered hot and cold soba and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Fish was also very fresh!
