About
Late-Night Cravings in the Heart of Waikiki
When the sun sets over the Pacific and the neon lights of Kuhio Avenue hum to life, this Honolulu staple remains a reliable beacon for those seeking comfort food. While many visitors flock to the shoreline for fancy cocktails, this is where you go when you need a stack of buttermilk pancakes at two in the morning. It captures that distinct, high-energy bustle of a tourist-heavy district, with the clatter of silverware and the constant hiss of the griddle serving as the soundtrack to your late-night meal.
What to Expect on the Plate
The menu stays true to the brand’s heritage, focusing on those iconic, fluffy pancakes that have defined the chain for decades. Whether you are ordering a classic Rooty Tooty Fresh 'N Fruity breakfast or loading up on a hearty omelet, the portions are predictably generous. You will smell the syrup and melting butter the moment you step off the busy sidewalk. It is a no-frills, utilitarian approach to dining that works perfectly after a long day of surfing or shopping in the surrounding district.
Local Observations
Be prepared for a wait during the peak morning rush—the line often stretches toward the entrance as families plan their day in Hawaii. The space is tight, and the acoustics can get loud when the house is full, but the efficient service keeps the crowd moving. Parking in this part of Honolulu is notoriously difficult, so if you are staying at a nearby resort, walking is your best bet. It is not trying to be a fine-dining establishment; it is simply a consistent, accessible spot for breakfast lovers situated right in the middle of all the island action.

While in Waikiki we experienced IHop for the first time, had been recommended by a friend but we were a little apprehensive as some of the reviews were not great. The restaurant at Waikiki is not the fanciest, but there were people inside so took that as a good sign. We were greeted warmly on arrival and asked to sign our name onto a clipboard (weird) and asked to wait. In about 5 minutes we were escorted to a table. Not the best spot, when our waitress (Vanessa) arrived we asked if we could please move, no problem, she sorted that out. Vanessa was very helpful with suggestions as we were not familiar with the menu. Our order was delivered and did not disappoint, the stuffed Omlete was very tasty and the pancakes fluffy and delicious. Vanessa was awesome, friendly and helpful. Would go again. Decor could do with a refresh to make the atmosphere more pleasant. Overall, happy with our experience 😊

We walked in first thing in the morning today. We have a large family and they sat 6 fine with tables sat everywhere. Our server was Ray and he was so amazing to our kids and our service was perfect. We will go back this week many times for breakfast. P.S. try the spicy poblano.

My server Pam was awesome and very attentive. She checked in on me multiple times and got everything I asked for quickly. Food was phenomenal, I got the breakfast sampler and it was excellent, especially the hash browns. Very happy with my breakfast and service and I’ll definitely be back again. Thanks Pam!

The best thing is the service. We had Ray as our waiter, and he gave us suggestions, and recommendations for food on the menu, being really helpful. My mum and I shared a meal; and Ray went the extra step to not only bring an extra plate, but actually divide our meal between two plates evenly already!

I had a great experience here, and a big part of that was thanks to our server, Ray. From the moment we sat down, he was friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome. He checked in at just the right times without being overbearing, kept our drinks full, and made sure everything came out exactly how we ordered it. What really stood out was his positive attitude—he seemed like he actually enjoyed what he was doing, and that kind of energy makes a huge difference in a dining experience. Even when things got a little busy, Ray stayed calm, efficient, and professional. Overall, the food was great, but Ray’s service is what made the visit memorable. I’ll definitely be coming back, and I hope to be served by him again!

The other morning i went here for breakfast. The food was decent. But i gotta say, Vanessa, my waitress was fantastic, super professional, very nice, extremely friendly, and honestly made us feel like we were family. Her presence was refreshing. Mahalo, Vanessa, for making our experience at Dennys an excellent one!! We'll definitely be back to this location again!

Everything was great from the time we opened the door u til the time we left. We were greeted warmly, sat right away, Pam took excellent care of us. She kept our drinks full, food was accurate and delicious! This our second visit recently and both times were outstanding! Something is definitely different at this IHOP now, it is much different than I remember.

We waited an hour for overpriced cold food. Once you get your bill, I'm almost sure you'll do a double take. Look at what we paid for two people 👀. This location isn't kidding, it really is the International Bank of Pancakes. Bring your wallet and leave your taste buds.

Had two-topping omelets with side salads. Delicious. Got the Mon-Thurs evening special, 15 menu items under $15.

Unfortunately, we were disappointed with our experience at iHop today. We came with our family for breakfast, hoping for a pleasant start to the day — but things didn’t go as expected. First, we had to wait a very long time just to get inside, even though there didn’t seem to be a full house. Then, once seated, we had to wait even longer for our food, despite ordering simple breakfast items. The service was noticeably slow, and the staff seemed disorganized and not in a hurry to assist guests. When the food finally arrived, it didn’t live up to the price — we paid around $25 per plate, but the quality definitely didn’t reflect that. The portions were okay, but the presentation and freshness left much to be desired. It didn’t feel dirty, but the overall appearance of the place looked outdated and unkempt, like it hadn’t been refreshed in a while. We really wanted to enjoy our time, but unfortunately, the whole experience just felt disappointing. We don’t plan to return.
