About
A Masterclass in Hand-Cut Soba
Tucked away in the quiet pockets of the Moiliili district, I-NABA Honolulu brings the precise craft of traditional Japanese buckwheat noodles to the island. While many local spots lean toward fusion, this kitchen remains strictly devoted to the artisanal process of making soba from scratch daily. You can hear the rhythmic chop of the chef’s knife against the cutting board—a sound that signals the freshness of the noodles arriving at your table.
The Kaiseki Artistry
For those seeking more than just a quick lunch, the restaurant shines during its evening service, where the menu shifts toward refined kaiseki courses. Chef Shunji Inaba prioritizes seasonal ingredients, often flying in high-grade seafood from Japan to complement local flavors. The room is intimate and minimalist, favoring wooden textures that absorb the chatter, creating a calm, meditative space perfect for long dinners or quiet celebrations.
What to Expect When Visiting
The signature chilled seiro soba is the benchmark here; the noodles possess a firm, nutty bite that pairs perfectly with their house-made dashi dipping sauce. If you visit for dinner, be prepared for a slower, intentional pace—this is not a place for a rushed bite. While the parking lot in this Honolulu neighborhood can be notoriously tight, the transition from the bustling street into the serene dining room makes the effort worthwhile. It is a destination for the purist who appreciates the subtle nuances of dashi and the structural integrity of a hand-kneaded noodle.

If you’re looking for fresh sashimi and noodles, this is the place. The food is incredibly fresh, you can really taste the quality in both the fish and the noodles. Service was good and efficient, even when it gets busy. Definitely recommend!

Everytime I asked my Japanese clients which Japanese restaurant they enjoyed most in Honolulu, Inaba consistently came up. And now I know why. I finally had lunch here a couple weeks ago and damn was my tempura and soba set broke da mout. The soba is housemade with a chewy consistency that I love. I had it cold with the dipping sauce and wow wow wow. So good. My friends suggested I get the shrimp and vegetable tempura as well which amazingly stayed crispy the whole time I savored each bite. Probably 30 minutes. Light crisp batter on perfectly cooked shrimp and veggies. Damn it was good. The service was great as well and I cannot wait to go back. It gets busy during lunch and dinner, so get there early or make a reservation. Enjoy! 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

What a gem! Very pleased with this restaurant. Food is amazing. Everything we ordered was just on point. Tempura was light and crisp. Seasoned well. We ordered hot and cold soba and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Fish was also very fresh!
