A Steaming Oasis in Kapiolani

Steps away from the bustling thoroughfares of Kapiolani, Hot Pot Heaven serves as a communal sanctuary for those craving a personalized dining experience. Here, the ritual is simple: raw ingredients arrive at your table, ready to be submerged in bubbling, aromatic pots that anchor the center of every booth. It is the kind of place that rewards patient diners—you’ll be hovering over your boiling broth for a while, making it an ideal choice for long-form conversations with friends or family who don’t mind a bit of steam on their glasses.

Broths That Pack a Punch

The menu leans heavily into tradition, featuring signature spicy Szechuan bases that provide a genuine numbing sensation, balanced by milder, comforting tonkotsu-style foundations. You’ll hear the constant clinking of long-handled ladles against ceramic bowls, punctuated by the faint, rhythmic chop of fresh scallions being prepared in the open kitchen. The fragrance of star anise and ginger hangs heavy in the air, a sensory promise of the deep, umami-rich flavors to come.

A Local Favorite Near the Ala Moana Corridor

Positioned conveniently for those traversing Honolulu, the restaurant is a go-to for locals seeking a hearty meal after a day at the beach or a shopping spree at nearby Ala Moana. One minor quirk to keep in mind: the layout is compact, which contributes to the cozy, high-energy environment but means you might be sitting quite close to your neighbor. It is not the spot for a hushed, private business meeting, but it excels if you are looking for an unpretentious, high-heat meal where the quality of the thinly sliced meats and crisp local greens takes center stage. Parking in the area can get tight during peak dinner hours, so arriving slightly before the evening rush is a smart move to secure your spot.

The Thai Broth was excellent. We ordered Mild Spicy and its just have a right amount of kick to it. I say they have one of the best broth. We also had the Mushroom Broth and it delicious. You can definitely taste the chicken broth. The protein portion is generous for the price. The vegetables and noodles are fresh. I really like hot pot style, you can customize your meal according to your taste. The service was outstanding and the wonderful lady was always refilling our water. Small dining area, but maximize the space without feeling cramp. My only complaint was the air exhaust on the ceiling that look like mold. Not a good look. Hopefully the owner can take care of that soon.

Delicious! We loved the kimchi broth. Prices are super reasonable for the amount of meat you get per plate. I also loved being able to see and pick out our veggies, noodles, seafood, and tofu from the fridges. Color coded plates make it easy to know how much you're spending. Again, generous portions per plate. Staff was super friendly. We will definitely be returning.

Really great food and good fun for our kids to cook their own hot pot ingredients! The variety of vegetables/dumplings and noodles in the fridge as a diy service was nice.

Hot Pot Heaven is a delightful and spacious restaurant, perfect for both intimate gatherings and larger groups. The ordering process is straightforward: choose your soup base (I went for the miso), select individually priced fixings, and customize your sauce to your liking. My personal selection included udon noodles, a plate of broccoli, brisket, and zucchini – and the result was absolutely delicious! The flavors blended seamlessly, creating a satisfying and enjoyable hot pot experience.

Basa Filet, taro root stems (which I never had them before) and the vegetable soup base were very good. The staff told me the soup was made from only vegetables, but I forgot to ask if there was any msg. It tasted very good, but I developed a very slight allegorical reaction that didn’t last very long. In hindsight sight, it may be something in the fermented bean curds sauce. The beef belly and briskets were good and the vegetables weee okay as well. The only item that I didn’t like was the tofu skin as it had a stale taste no matter how long I tried to cook it. There were also no chopped green onions and cilantros for the dipping sauce, which was unusual for a hot pot place. Other than that, the rest were either good or acceptable. I noticed that many other patrons ordered too much and had to get a container or two to take them home. Unfortunately, hot pot left over does not taste good and also it’s not very healthy to eat hot pot overnight. So, remember not to order too much. The service was friendly and attentive. The sitting area was a bit too basic for us, but it was clean.

This is the place you go when you want a no fuss, affordable comfort food that hot pot can provide for you. There is a lot of broth options to choose from, my favorite is Thai. Good news for vegetarians and vegans, they have vegetable broth so you can eat hot pot guilt free. The dishes are divided into four categories - green, yellow, red and blue so you can roughly estimate the cost of your food before paying for them. There are a lot of noodle, vegetable, meat and seafood options to choose from and you'll definitely feel really full afterwards. The only annoying thing is figuring out parking because McCully Shopping Center is always buzzing at night so parking runs out fast even though they have basement parking. Bonus for the funny ladle for bathroom key.

Service was absolutely phenomenal! She (either the owner or manager?) was so so kind and attentive. We had a split pot, and both broths were very good. Unique dynamic where you pick your own veggies from the fridge. A little expensive—AYCE hot pot is sometimes cheaper than this. But the value was worth it. We enjoyed.

A super yummy hot pot place! We tried the miso broth and the mushroom broth and both were well loaded with flavorful goodies. I appreciated the clear color coordinated price labeling for the ingredients in the fridges and it's fun picking them out for yourself directly. The staff were so friendly and attentive and the meal was excellent. All the ingredients, meats, sauces and broths had plenty of varied options. Highly recommend for all your local hot pot cravings :)
