Holey Grail Donuts (1001 Queen St #101)
About
A Different Kind of Fried Dough
Walking into this Kakaako hub, the first thing that hits you is the scent of coconut oil crackling in the air. Holey Grail Donuts has carved out a niche in Honolulu by trading traditional wheat flour for local taro. These aren't your typical heavy, sugar-coated rings; they are fried to order in small batches, resulting in a crispy exterior that gives way to a soft, earthy center.
Why the Kakaako Crowd Lines Up
This spot is ideal for those who want a quick, elevated snack while exploring the street art-filled streets of Honolulu. The menu shifts based on what is available from island farmers, meaning your selection changes with the seasons. Keep an eye out for the 'Hot Gold,' their signature offering that showcases the natural sweetness of the taro, elevated by a simple, precise glaze.
The Experience
Expect a minimalist, industrial-leaning aesthetic that fits right into the neighborhood. It is a grab-and-go destination, so don't plan on settling in for a long brunch; space is limited, and the queue often spills out onto the sidewalk during peak weekend hours. The ordering process is tech-forward and streamlined, perfect for busy urbanites. If you visit on a busy morning, prepare for a bit of a wait, but the distinct, nutty aroma of the frying process serves as a worthwhile preview of the reward to come.

Amazing donuts! So nice to be able to have hot, fresh vegan donuts! Some have honey in so make sure to check ingredients before ordering if vegan but everything is clearly labelled! Only coffee or match drink options.

These donuts are incredible! I crave them constantly. All of the flavors have been amazing so far, but I think my favorite may be the original sin. The texture is perfect and they’re consistently delicious and fresh. I’ve never had a bad batch. I love that they’re not too sweet or over the top. They’re just the right amount of flavor and toppings!

We ordered the Original Sin and the Hot Single, and both were incredible. The Original Sin was a perfect balance of real maple and Hawaii vanilla bean, while the Hot Single was simple yet amazing with local honey and flakey sea salt. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients, and because they are made to order, the texture was hot and fresh. On top of the delicious donuts, the coffee with Macadamia nut creamer was perfect. The shop had a beautiful, clean atmosphere, and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Get here while visiting Honolulu.
