Himalayan Kitchen (Jul)
About
A Gateway to the Himalayas in Waikiki
Stepping into Himalayan Kitchen, the scent of blooming cumin and slow-simmered ginger hits you immediately, offering a sharp, fragrant departure from the usual island fare found throughout Honolulu. This is a place for those who crave the bold, warming spices of high-altitude cooking, far removed from the tropical sweetness of typical Waikiki dining. It feels intimate, quiet, and unpretentious—the kind of spot where the focus remains entirely on the steaming pots of comfort food coming from the back.
Authentic Flavors from the Mountain Peaks
The menu leans heavily into the traditions of Nepal and Tibet. You cannot leave without trying the momos; these steamed dumplings are served with a signature spicy tomato-based chutney that wakes up your palate with a sharp, acidic bite. The lentil soups and vegetable curries possess a depth of flavor developed through slow-cooking, providing a hearty contrast to the humid air of the city. Their lamb curry, in particular, is noted for its tender consistency and rich, layered gravy that demands to be scooped up with fresh, pillowy naan.
The Experience
The interior is modest and functional, favoring a relaxed pace that reflects mountain living rather than the frantic rush of the surrounding tourist district. It is a fantastic choice for solo travelers or small groups who want a genuine meal away from the noise of the beach. Be aware that the space is compact, so expect a bit of an elbow-to-elbow experience during the peak dinner rush. Whether you are looking to escape the sun or simply satisfy a craving for complex, soul-satisfying seasonings, this kitchen delivers a consistent, spice-forward experience that stands out in the Honolulu food scene.

Everything we had was so delicious and the service made us feel special. Also beautiful and immersive setting. My recommendations for something new and different would be the vegetable pakora and the 4 spice chocolate gelato!

One of my favorite/ comfort places to dine at. Been a regular since the ala moana location and came to this location since. The ambiance, food, and overall vibe is very comforting and wonderful. Food is delicious as always, always love the mango lassi as well, usually always get it when im here. Customer service is always great, love the workers here they’re super friendly and amazing. This is definitely one of the places I’d recommend to people.

Beyond excellent culinary experience , this restaurant has a joyful vibe with muted lighting and strings of mini lights festooning the outside eating area. We set on the outside deck which was cozy and breezy. Extensive menu and the staff took great pains to make everyone feel at home and accommodated. It was very busy on a Wednesday night reflecting its local popularity. Servings were good sized and seasoned perfectly. The chef will adjust to any personal spice preferences. Very pleasant ambience - will plan to return before visit is up.

HIGHLY recommend this restaurant! Just minutes away from all that is Waikīkī brings you to an authentic, lovely little place with superb friendly service and food just as wonderful! I stayed with the “boring” choices this time - vegetable samosas, garlic & jalapeño nan, and tikka masala - but they were excellent. Next time will branch out as fully trust it will all be excellent!

We Love trying new restaurants and we decided to try this location. Food - we had chicken masala, rice, roti, bread basket (naan - garlic, onion & plain), mix tandoori kebab, & Madras madness. All of it is highly recommended and must try. Dessert: Gulab Jamun - this was delicious and must try. 4 spice chocolate Gelato - its an acquired taste but definitely different and good. Atmosphere: we sat outside in the lanai and view is nice and great place to sit during dinner. Service: was amazing! Suman was great! He helped us decide on our dessert and had great conversation with him. Environment overall was comfortable and great place to enjoy with friends & family. We definitely would come back to this restaurant to try out the rest of the food on the menu. Highly recommend!

Me and my husband had the most wonderful dinner and experience this evening. Our server did a great job of explaining everything to us and he was just amazing! I was surprised to see this restaurant didn’t have a higher rating, and after reading some of the other reviews, yes, the service is a bit slower but we really enjoyed that. It was the first time all day when we didn’t feel rushed. We were able to savor the food, enjoy the atmosphere, and relax. We will definitely be coming again.

This place is amazing! I absolutely love this location. It’s a bit tucked away, but the lanai with sunset views, the indoor space, and the patio are all fantastic. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with perfect music and lighting that set the vibe just right. Reservations aren’t required, but they’re always recommended. Service was excellent—our server was very attentive and made sure we were having a great time. The food was outstanding! Just a heads-up: be mindful of the spice level. They use a 1–10 scale; I ordered a 5, which was just right for me, but it might be too spicy if you’re sensitive. There are great vegetarian options, too. The chicken tikka masala came with complimentary rice, the garlic naan was delicious, and the samosas with the green sauce made for a perfect appetizer. Parking is easy to find just around the corner.
