Mid-Century Waikiki Reimagined

Perched above the bustling streets of Waikiki, Hideout offers a refreshing departure from the typical high-rise dining scene. The space feels like a cool, airy living room from the 1950s, complete with hanging chairs and a massive open-air balcony that lets in the salty ocean breeze. It is the perfect spot for travelers who want to escape the tourist density below while keeping a finger on the pulse of the city.

Modern Island Flavors

The kitchen leans into a global-fusion approach that respects local Hawaiian ingredients. You will often find the menu anchored by their signature Kimchi Fried Rice or the blackened catch of the day, which highlights the bounty of the Pacific. Expect the occasional crackle of the wood-fired grill and the steady hum of a mixologist crafting house-specialty mai tais behind the long, mahogany bar.

The Experience

While the aesthetic is undeniably polished, the atmosphere remains laid-back. It is common to see a mix of locals catching up after work and vacationers transitioning from the beach to the nightlife. Keep in mind that the outdoor lounge area fills up quickly during the golden hour, so snagging a seat near the edge of the terrace requires a bit of timing. The acoustic tile work and greenery provide a nice buffer against the urban noise, though the open layout means you will definitely feel the energy of the Waikiki district as the sun dips below the horizon.

The food is not seasoned very well but different options at least and still good, just bland. The host Victoria is very welcoming and accommodating. Sarah was a nice waiter and took time to suggest some local favorites. Atmosphere was lovely!

This review is mostly for the deal. If you know, you know. Hideout’s cheeseburger, fries and a Mai Tai for $30 is one of the best values I’ve found in Waikīkī. Read that again: a burger, fries and a Mai Tai for $30 in Waikīkī. In 2026. Wild. I’ve probably been here five times specifically for this deal and it never disappoints. The burger hits the spot, the Mai Tai is solid and the service is consistently good. The atmosphere is relaxed, open-air and a nice escape from the crowds below. No beach views, but you’re still overlooking Waikīkī and it’s a great place to unwind. They often have live music in the evenings and on weekends, which adds to the vibe. As someone who works East Coast hours and is usually done with work by lunchtime, this has become one of my favorite spots for an affordable meal and drink without feeling like I’m getting completely destroyed by Waikīkī prices. Most places do a burger and a beer special. Hideout said, “How about a burger and a Mai Tai?” And for that, I salute them. Special shoutout to Carson and nighttime Sarah (not daytime Sarah 😂 I don’t know her). I’m biased, that’s my girl.

The restaurant it’s located on the second floor of the Laylow hotel. The hotel has valet parking only. The restaurant validates two hours of free parking. The serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. The restaurant serves a limited full service breakfast. All dishes are made to order. The lunch menu is limited made to order dishes. The dinner menu is extensive. All the meals served in the restaurant were very good. The serving size were adequate. The prices were reasonable and the service was very good. There is a full bar service. There is live music every night.

Hideout has excellent breakfasts with relaxing and beautiful plant lined balcony setting with view of surrounding area but no street view in. Staff is great and so is their Mai Tai and banana liquor old fashioned.

Great food & drinks! Luce music is very good! A little too noisy with LOTS of noisy customers. Atmosphere is superb! We were thrilled until they sat a table of 12 next to us, half of them are vaping & not caring about the rest of us around them. 🙄 Time to go. I'd recommend if you're not bothered by noise & big groups of thoughtless patrons who think they own the hotel.

Hideout Waikiki is one of my favorite chill spots in Waikiki. Location inside Laylow hotel is very convenient. Staff is friendly but not over, relaxed Hawaii style. Food quality is better than I expect, good balance of healthy and comfort. Drinks also nice. Room / space design is stylish, open air feeling, good music. vibe is cool, not loud club, but social and easy. 夕方から夜が特に気持ちいい。 Hideout Waikiki is perfect for casual dinner or drink.

We had a wonderful lunch at Hideout. The views of the city were great, we loved the appetizers, and it was fairly easy to find. We recommend the wontons and fries. Both were excellent. There’s bar, outdoor, and indoor seating too.

Went out in the afternoon for happy hour. The prices weren’t so happy, but the food was absolutely good! My friends and I shared tacos, egg rolls, dumplings, and fried chicken. We all really liked it. The crew was really nice too. 10/10 afternoon.
