Hibachi Honolulu Market
About
Fresh Island Flavors in the Heart of Kaimuki
Stepping into Hibachi Honolulu Market, you are immediately greeted by the distinct, savory aroma of kiawe-grilled meats and the crisp, oceanic scent of freshly cubed ahi. This is not a place for white-tablecloth service; it is a bustling, no-frills neighborhood staple where the line out the door reflects the quality of the ingredients packed into their takeout containers.
The Art of the Daily Poke Bowl
Known across the Kaimuki district as a premier destination for poke, the market prepares its fish daily. Whether you prefer the classic shoyu-sesame marinade or a spicy mayo kick, the consistency of the ahi is what keeps locals coming back. Beyond the cold case, the kitchen excels at bento-style plates. Their signature grilled items—particularly the succulent marinated chicken and melt-in-your-mouth short ribs—carry a deep, smoky char that defines the island’s casual culinary landscape.
Why Locals Choose This Spot
Hibachi Honolulu Market is perfect for those planning a beach day or a hike who need sustenance that actually tastes like home-cooked island comfort. The atmosphere is authentically utilitarian; you walk in, grab a chilled drink from the cooler, and wait for your name to be called. Note that parking in this part of town can be a tight squeeze during the lunch rush, so plan to arrive early or be ready to circle the block. It is a humble, high-energy environment where the focus remains strictly on providing high-quality, locally sourced proteins to the neighborhood crowd.

Came in here for late lunch. It was perfect coz nobody is ordering or dining. It was an easy peasy one. Food is good but not the best. Chicken skewer is cooked good and meat is tender. It comes with rice, and a choice of two sides (mine was yakisoba & okra in sesame sauce). The lamb skewer was seasoned well & grilled to perfection. It is not chewy at all and had a great overall texture. Though the way they arrange their food on the closed glass is a bit ghetto, ummm…. Sometimes you need to be adventurous, you know what I mean? LoL. Recommended!

The spicy oyster sauce ahi poke is awesome! The plate lunches have large portions and are very tasty. The sides they have are unique and delicious (furikake mac salad with asparagus ftw)

Generous portions of local food. You can watch them cook up your order fresh. Clean open kitchen. Prices range from $9+ Interior seating is cramped. Service is good. My pork tonkatsu was a little tough, maybe it needed more tenderizing?!
