Hawaii Sushi
About
Freshness Meets Island Tradition
Tucked away amidst the bustling streets of Honolulu, Hawaii Sushi offers a straightforward approach to Japanese dining that prioritizes the ocean’s daily catch. The interior is refreshingly minimalist, stripping away unnecessary decor to keep the focus squarely on the craftsmanship behind the sushi counter. You will often hear the sharp, rhythmic sound of a chef’s blade hitting the cutting board over the soft hum of local conversation, creating an environment that feels more like a private kitchen than a high-end tourist trap.
The Omakase Experience
Chef-led preparation is the draw here. The menu leans heavily into nigiri and sashimi, highlighting seasonal Hawaiian fish prepared with traditional Edomae-style techniques. Regulars know to ask for the day's fresh arrivals, which often include impeccably sliced local ahi or kampachi that practically melts on the tongue. The vinegared rice—the heartbeat of any good sushi—is balanced perfectly, arriving at room temperature to ensure the texture of the fish remains the star.
A Note for Local Diners
Parking in this specific section of the city can be a test of patience, so consider arriving a few minutes early to secure a spot nearby. Once inside, the atmosphere is cozy and intimate, making it an excellent choice for a low-key date night or a focused meal where the food dictates the pace of the evening. It is a no-frills destination for those who value the purity of sashimi over elaborate, sauce-heavy rolls.

Affordable and good quality sushi not too jar from diamond head and the beach. Got takeout and brought to the park down the street to eat. The spicy Mayo was really good. Opens pretty early if you need an earlier meal.

My family stopped by when we visited Diamond Head and cafes near this restaurant to grab some light lunch. The food even from the cold self was so fresh and the texture of rice was perfect! Quality of sushi depends on rice mix, seaweed paper, and freshness of fish. This store has all for sushi!! We really loved them! Stop by and grab some.👍🏻I only have one picture because I didn’t expect they were that much delicious to put on my review. I recommend this store☺️

Great, fresh Sushi. The inside is small. You’ll likely want it to go. The outside table is on the sidewalk, sort of almost in the parking lot. But, there are a ton of parks and public spaces to enjoy! The sushi is excellent. The rolls are made fresh when ordered. The miso is flavorful. There is not a single complaint to be made. We enjoyed it back at the hotel. Packed and traveled well. 10 minutes.
