Hanyang
About
A Taste of Seoul in Kaka'ako
When you walk into Hanyang, the first thing that hits you is the unmistakable aroma of garlic, toasted sesame oil, and fermenting kimchi. This local staple in the bustling Kaka'ako district of Honolulu has long been a go-to for those craving authentic, no-nonsense Korean comfort food. The space feels utilitarian and direct, eschewing flashy décor for the promise of a hearty meal that hits the spot every time.
The Signature Experience
The menu is anchored by classic Korean staples, but the standout here is the Soon Tofu—a bubbling, spicy soft tofu stew served with a variety of banchan that cycles with the seasons. Expect small plates of pickled cucumber, seasoned bean sprouts, and bright, pungent kimchi to arrive at your table before you’ve even settled into your chair. The broth is rich, complex, and carries a heat that lingers just long enough to keep things interesting. For those who enjoy a bit of texture, the stone pot rice, with its crispy, scorched bottom, provides a satisfying crunch that rounds out the meal.
Know Before You Go
While the food is consistently excellent, keep in mind that parking in this part of Honolulu can be a bit of a puzzle during peak lunch hours. The dining room occasionally gets loud when the lunch rush hits, as it’s a favorite among nearby office workers looking for a reliable, fast, and flavor-packed break. Hanyang isn't about white-tablecloth service; it is about the steam rising from a hot bowl of soup and the fast-paced, efficient service that defines a true neighborhood eatery. It is an ideal spot for a casual weekday lunch or a low-key dinner where the main focus is strictly on the quality of the stew and the authenticity of the ingredients.

Food was good! I had the Oreo pancakes with scrabble eggs and pineapple juice. It was very good! Atmosphere was good!

Modest place, nothing extravagant but delish! Everything we had was yummy and the service was great. if u finish ur ban chan and want more, they will bring. My fried squid was absolutely perfect from the tasty sauce to the proportion of squid to veggies. This could easily feed 2. The special my brother had was enjoyable and he ate the entire plate by himself. I will def come back for that squid!

They brought us what we ordered first for all-you-can-eat. After that, we wanted to add a little bit of something else, all of them said, “finish your food first”. Not an agreeable experience! Besides, they offer very limited items for all-you-can-eat. Their meat is not tastefully marinated.
