About
Grill Your Own Korean Feast in Hawaii Kai
Tucked away in the eastern reaches of Oahu, Hangang Korean BBQ brings a focused, no-frills approach to the tabletop dining experience. This spot is a local favorite for those who prefer their proteins seared right in front of them, with the familiar scent of charcoal and marinated galbi hitting the air the moment you walk through the doors.
The Tableside Ritual
The star here is undoubtedly the bulgogi and short ribs. Each serving arrives with a spread of traditional banchan, ranging from spicy kimchi to crunchy pickled cucumbers. You’ll find yourself busy balancing the tongs and the scissors, cutting the meat into bite-sized pieces as it sizzles on the built-in grill. It’s an interactive, communal way to eat that feels less like a formal dinner and more like a Sunday gathering at home.
What to Expect
The dining room leans toward a utilitarian aesthetic—brightly lit and functional, designed for longevity rather than trendiness. Because the grills stay hot, the dining area can get quite steamy, which only adds to the authenticity of the experience. It is a fantastic choice for families or groups coming off a long day at Hanauma Bay or a hike through Koko Head who need a high-protein, satisfying meal to recharge.
While the parking lot in this Honolulu shopping center can get tight during peak dinner rushes, the flavor profile makes the minor scramble for a space worth it. If you are looking for a straightforward, delicious Korean meal that doesn't compromise on the heat or the quality of the marinade, this Hawaii Kai destination hits the mark every time.

This location is just as good as the Alamoana one. Inside is clean and spacious, plenty of seats for lunch and dinner. Service is fast and easy. This location felt like the food was bigger portioned, their kalbi was bigger than other location. Lunch specials are definitely worth the price, 30$ and you get meat and soup.

Just had an incredible meal at Hang Gang next to King's New Valley and I'm blown away! I ordered the beef bibimbap and it was absolutely delicious - packed with fresh vegetables, tender meat, and came with a perfect side of rice and seaweed soup, plus all the traditional Korean appetizers (banchan). My only tiny critique is that it could have used just a touch more salt and pepper, but honestly, the flavors were still amazing. My dining companions got the lunch special with short ribs and soft tofu soup, and they couldn't stop raving about it. They said the short ribs were literally the best they've ever had on the island - and the fried rice with squash and beans was phenomenal. You can really taste the quality and freshness in every ingredient. The portions are generous, the ingredients are top-notch, and everything feels made with care. There's something special about a place where the food is prepared with such skill and attention to detail. Definitely coming back soon! This place deserves way more recognition.
