Hana Koa Brewing Co.
About
A Neighborhood Hub for Hop Lovers
Tucked away in the industrial heart of Kakaʻako, Hana Koa Brewing Co. serves as a refreshing change of pace from the typical tourist haunts. This airy, high-ceilinged space balances a raw, urban aesthetic with warm wooden accents, making it an ideal spot for locals looking to unwind after a long work week. You will notice the immediate hum of conversation bouncing off the concrete floors, paired with the faint, sweet scent of malted barley drifting from the brewhouse.
Brewing Beyond the Basics
What sets this Honolulu destination apart is the experimental spirit of their fermentation program. While they maintain a steady lineup of core beers, the menu is defined by a rotating selection of sours, hazy IPAs, and barrel-aged specialties that shift with the seasons. It is best to come here with an open mind and a flight paddle, especially if you enjoy notes of tropical lilikoi or punchy, piney hops. If the beer doesn't draw you in, their kitchen offers elevated pub food that leans heavily into local sourcing, from crispy pork belly bites to artisanal flatbreads that provide the perfect base for a long session.
Local Nuance
Keep in mind that parking in Kakaʻako can be a bit of a puzzle during peak weekend hours, so plan for a short walk through the neighborhood. The acoustics can get fairly lively when the house is full, turning the space into a boisterous echo chamber of craft beer enthusiasm. It is a fantastic place for groups of friends or an informal date where the main priority is quality conversation and even better beer. Whether you are a dedicated hop-head or just looking for a crisp lager in a truly authentic Honolulu setting, this brewery captures the evolving spirit of Hawaii's local craft scene.

Went during happy hour but unfortunately only 2 beers are discounted then. The IPA was not my style and the blonde was just ok. I definitely preferred the happy hour of Aloha Brewing down the street.

Nice brewery with some tasty foods and decent beers. Hip vibe. PROS: Modern, clean facility with friendly staff and quick service. A few solid beers. Their food seems quality pub food. We enjoyed the Hawaiian wings and Maui onion rings. Their other food looked good too. CONS: Hana Koa makes some decent beers, but not the best in the island. Their flavored beers are too flavored. Many are thin. I think their problem might be similar to many wineries on the mainland who try to make too many varieties and don’t focus hard on the three or four that are their forte. Hana Koa is currently offering sixteen different beers of which three or four are really good. Their Truckin’ IPA is good. Their oatmeal stout is fantastic (There aren’t enough stouts and porters being produced on the island. This may be the best we’ve had on O’ahu). But many others are too artificial or too thin. The vibe here is very “hip”. If you’re not one of the cool kids then this place might not feel as comfy for you as your local. But the staff is quite nice and you’ll have a nice time. Why only four stars? Their beer just isn’t what they hope it to be. The vibe is a bit too forced (They are a bit too “full of themselves”). If I could give it 4.5 I would. Give them a try. You’ll likely have a great time and if some of the other island breweries are too unpolished for you then this might be your spot!

Excellent brewery. We didn’t try any food since we’d just had some apps at Aloha earlier during happy hour but the beers we tried were really good. The bartender and other staff were friendly. Place had great vibes.

Definitely recommend visiting Hana Koa if you are into amazing beer and food. I will definitely be stopping by any time I am in town. I had a flight, a couple tasters, and the pork belly sliders. Everything was good flavor and balanced. The sweet/spicy sliders were awesome. They also had a great menu and a lot of options which makes me want to come back and try more!

Decent food, the pork tacos and popcorn shrimp were highlights for me. The reason that this is 3 stars and is because the parking is very difficult to come by here. Would recommend going by uber or walking if you want to eat here. Also the beer wasn’t very good for being a brewery

One of the best meals I’ve had in Oahu! Great beer and amazing food. I highly recommend the garlic shrimp plate with beef short ribs. The ribs were incredibly tender (and boneless!) and flavorful, paired perfectly with sesame seasoned bok choy. The purple mochi daze had a unique and interesting taste, definitely worth trying as well!

Good place and great beer, especially if you like hazy IPA's. Cloud Monster and Another Adventure were my favorites. My food was fantastic! Had the October special Green Curry Plate. Good heat but not so much as to obscure the taste. Highly recommended and hope to be back.

Stopped by Hana Koa Brewing during a work trip and I will definitely be back! The vibe is fun, welcoming, and relaxed. The perfect mix of local charm and creative energy. The food goes way beyond typical “brewpub” fare. Every dish that came out of the kitchen looked delicious. I had the Pork Belly Sliders and they were excellent! I sat at the bar and have to shout out my bartender, Lil Viking, super friendly and I appreciate the food recommendations! Parking is close and on the side of the brewery. I was there during the day so it was easy, but I imagine it fills up quick during peak hours. Merch: Definitely check out their merchandise area. I went home with a shirt!! Hana Koa is absolutely worth the stop for great food, great drinks, and great people. 🌈🍺 PS: Their brunch menu looks amazing as well!!
