Ha Long Pho Noodle House
About
A for Vietnamese Comfort
Tucked away from the frantic pace of the main Honolulu thoroughfares, Ha Long Pho Noodle House offers a reprieve for those seeking authentic, no-frills Vietnamese cooking. This spot is defined by the fragrant steam of star anise and cinnamon that hits you the moment you step through the door—a scent that promises a long-simmered broth behind every bowl.
The Bowl That Defines the Menu
The star here is undoubtedly the Pho. Unlike the overly sweetened versions often found in tourist-heavy districts, the broth here leans into a savory, beefy depth that feels like a home-cooked meal. Whether you opt for the classic rare steak slices or the mix of brisket and tendon, the meat is consistently tender. For those looking for something beyond the soup, the crispy spring rolls offer a satisfying crunch that plays perfectly against the herbaceous notes of fresh Thai basil and bean sprouts served on the side.
The Honolulu Neighborhood Character
This is a place for locals who prioritize flavor over pretense. The seating is modest and the space can get quite bustling during the lunch rush, creating a high-energy environment where the clinking of spoons against ceramic bowls creates a rhythmic, communal soundtrack. It isn't a spot for a quiet, candlelit dinner; rather, it’s where you go when you need a hot, restorative meal in the heart of the city.
Pro tip: Parking in this part of Honolulu can be a tight squeeze, so if you are driving, plan to circle the block once or twice. It is a small price to pay for a bowl of noodles that feels genuinely crafted rather than mass-produced.

First time went very well, after a while maybe a week or so we came in waiting to be seated and were told sit anywhere tables weren't cleaned properly B4 our turn to use table. No drinks where served not even water, we waited. But customer service skills not all there. I've never heard of a Pho restaurant that does not serve calamari!?! ...I could just be trippin but that's wild. Lol

We came to have dinner but noticed several things that changed our minds. The place has about 15 tables but half hasn't been cleaned. We only saw 1 employee taking orders and 1 at the register. Aside from the entire restaurant looking dingy, the restrooms typically will tell you how clean or dirty the kitchen is and we discovered the restrooms were filthy. After seeing this, we decided to walk out.

The food is decent, I didn't find it as fantastic as the other reviews that got me there, plus; in the middle of eating my feet felt wet (everyone wears "slippah" sandles here in Hawaii), I was then informed that the refrigerator behind the wall was leaking!

Aloha all; ok so pho is not great every where you go no matter what anyone tells you. You have to find the perfect noodles and pho base.. and this place has it all. I consider this spot my number 2 spot and for great reason. They have great service, pho soup is unreal and parking is abundant. But really only a few e places can compete with this place. Try it out

Visiting my Mommy Dearest and she wanted to take her to run some errands and eat Pho. Since we are in Kalihi we decided to visit Ha Long Pho Noodle House which is located in the Waiakamilo Shopping Center in Kalihi. Their combination Pho is great and packed with beefy flavor and spices not overpowering. Their summer roll was ok and seemed like it wasn't freshly made. But Mommy Dearest said it's okay, good to take out and eat later. Go check them out and support small businesses. Fast, casual, and friendly service. The food is good and the service is attentive.

The food was good for the price. If you want pho in an old school dinner type experience, this is the place. Definitely a place for locals by locals. I live here but still got looks like I was a tourist. I will definitely go back to try other dishes and to get pho again.

Unfortunately, Ha Long seems to be suffering through the same staffing shortages and inflation plaguing many businesses nowdays. My experience here wasn't what i was expecting. The broth was great, but for the price of a large I expected a bit more noodles and meat. Also, I prefer at least two sprigs of basil with that size of an order. There was just a short wait to get seated, but many of the empty tables needed cleaning and busing. The kicker was having to sip my broth from the bowl since all of the spoons were being cleaned. The staff was working hard, but probably just overextended. Hopefully Ha Long can improve and live up to their previously earned great reviews.

Ha Long Pho is one of my "go to" stops when I'm home...and as always, the ono grindz did not disappoint!!! Summer Rolls: Very large!!! I don't remember them being as full as they were today...not sure if it was a mistake, or a new recipe. As I remember it was so fresh filled with crispy veggies!!! Definitely a 10/10!!! Seafood Pho: When it's an option, I always order seafood Pho! For those of you who know how to eat Pho, you know that beef broth is a must, no matter what style Pho you order. Most places I have to ask for beef broth as it often comes with a vegetable broth...but here, it automatically comes with beef broth. And the seafood was not chewy. I would have loved to see some other seafood represented (it only had fishcake balls and shrimp) but it didn't take away from the healthy portion and umami flavor!!! 9/10 (Only because of the variety of seafood.) COVID Protocols: I felt very comfortable at Ha Long Pho, they require proof of vaccine, or negative COVID test, to enter...and...instead of your spices being left on the table, they are pulled after each guest, I can only assume to sanitize before the next guest uses it. 10/10 for sanitation and safety!!!
