About
Fresh Flour Ground Daily in Kahala
Walking into Great Harvest Bread Co. in the heart of Honolulu, the first thing that hits you is the unmistakable, heavy scent of yeast and honey-wheat baking in the ovens. This isn't your average commercial bakery; they mill their own Montana red wheat berries right on-site every single morning. The golden-brown loaves cooling on the racks create a warm, inviting backdrop that makes you want to tear into a slice of Honey Whole Wheat the moment it hits the counter.
Honolulu's Go-To for Scratch-Made Comfort
Whether you are grabbing a quick breakfast before heading toward Diamond Head or picking up a loaf of Dakota bread packed with sunflower and pumpkin seeds for your weekend hikes, the quality here remains consistent. The crusts are firm and earthy, while the centers stay soft enough to handle a heavy smear of butter. It is the kind of place where the staff remembers your name if you stop by enough, though keep in mind that the parking lot in the Kahala shopping area can get quite congested during mid-morning rush hours.
Why Locals Keep Coming Back
Beyond the signature loaves, their specialty items—like the cheddar garlic bread or their rotating selection of oversized cookies—are staples for many local office lunches. You will often see surfers and families grabbing items to go, creating a casual, bustling energy. It is a no-frills, honest bakery that focuses entirely on the integrity of the grain, providing a rustic slice of wholesome baking in the middle of a busy island city.

Breakfast sandwiches are delicious, their scones are good. I liked their kulolo muffin. You have to Warm it up and melt some butter and it adds to its deliciousness

I had some spare time and was in the area so I stopped by, and boy was I glad I did! I saw the Uncle Beau's Kulolo Tea Cake and asked about it. They graciously gave me a sample. SO smart of the to do that because the smell was so decadent and it tasted SO delicious, that I bought all the cakes they had! The staff is always so nice and accommodating. Highly recommended for gourmet breads!

If you don’t go here for the food, the friendliness of the staff really makes this place worth visiting. However, the food was just as good. We were given samples of their blueberry cream cheese scone and let me just say, they are known for this scone for a reason. It was soft, not dry, and overall delicious. I got he turkey pesto on rosemary garlic bread and it really hit the spot. The freshness of the bread made the sandwich even better! The breakfast sandwich was warm and good!
