Golden Duck
About
Authentic Cantonese Staples in Kaimuki
Tucked away in the heart of Kaimuki, Golden Duck serves as a reliable local destination for those seeking comfort food staples. The interior feels like a throwback to the bustling neighborhood eateries of the mid-90s, featuring round tables suited for family-style gatherings and the perpetual clinking of ceramic tea cups that fills the air. It is the kind of place where the kitchen prioritizes efficiency and flavor over modern presentation.
The Signature Experience
The menu is anchored by classic Cantonese preparations that locals have ordered for decades. Their ginger-scallion chicken and crispy roasted duck remain the highlights, offering that familiar, salt-savory balance expected from authentic neighborhood spots. The roast duck arrives with skin that has just enough pull, paired with a thin, sharp plum sauce that cuts through the richness of the meat. If you visit during peak lunch hours, expect a lively, echoing dining room as the kitchen staff maintains a fast-paced rhythm.
A Local Neighborhood Fixture
This is a no-frills environment perfect for a casual Tuesday night dinner or a quick takeout meal when your own kitchen feels too daunting. While parking in Kaimuki can be a bit of a localized puzzle, the straightforward, consistent cooking makes the effort worth it. You won’t find experimental fusion here; instead, you get the reliable, high-heat wok cooking that defined the Honolulu Chinese food scene long before the trendy upgrades took over the city. It is honest, grounded cooking served in an unpretentious setting that feels firmly rooted in the local community.

Staff was amazing and provided a recommendation since I was unsure what to order. Did the Golden Duck Plate. Everything was so flavorful. I absolutely loved it. Service was quick.

We dropped in for our normal Valentine’s Day Take Out Dinner. Food is delicious, stay away from the crowds and pay for a meal that isn’t commercial holiday marked up ;-). The order: Crispy Gau Gee (1 order - 8 pieces). Always so crunchy with that umami blast of pork hash inside. We always ask for that ooeeeyyy gooeeey yummy orange sweet sour sauce. Beef with Black Bean Sauce comes with green bell peppers and onions. One of my favorite dishes. The soft succulent beef in the umami & sweet black bean sauce mixed in with the nice crunch of the onions and bell peppers bite. Makes for my yummy tummy delight. Dinner Plate that’s served with sweet sour spare ribs (son sons favorite), beef broccoli (to get some veg), cold ginger chicken (tonight we subbed this for brow kau yuk), char siu fried rice, and crispy won tons (more crunch with a tiny dot of meat). Their fried rice is on point and packed with flavor. We always ordered the beef broccoli on the side to keep the sauce separate from being all over the fried rice. It’s a ton of good for great value. Typically one plate can feed our lil fam of 3. We are regulars here. The food is always delicious and take is always ready in our 10 minute drive from home.

Food came fresh. Well made and well seasoned. Huge portion for the price. Duck was delicious — crispy skin and juicy meat, no gamey smell. Crispy wonton was great. Sweet and sour pork was really sweet but addicting. Definitely will come back.

Found the old school Cantonese comfort food of the islands. Food and service were surprisingly good. We will be back to have a larger party here. Lunch and Dinner plates priced right for the quantity and selection for a mixed plate. Decent crowd of dine in and take out customers.
