Gina's Barbeque
About
A Local Staple Near Kaimuki
If you find yourself navigating the streets of Honolulu, specifically looking for that authentic, no-frills Hawaiian plate lunch, Gina’s Barbeque remains a mandatory stop. Tucked away near the bustling Kaimuki district, this spot embodies the casual, grab-and-go culture that keeps residents fueled throughout the week.
Smoky Flavors and Generous Portions
The air inside is thick with the savory, caramelized scent of grilled meats. Their signature BBQ chicken and short ribs are seasoned with a perfect balance of sweetness and salt, charred over the grill to achieve that quintessential smoky crust. Every plate comes heaped with their signature scoop of creamy macaroni salad and a mountain of steamed white rice. It is the definition of comfort food—unpretentious, heavy, and deeply satisfying.
The Experience
Expect a functional, utilitarian space where the focus is entirely on the food. You might notice the line spilling out the door during the lunch rush, as locals and savvy visitors wait patiently for their foil-wrapped treasures. Parking in this part of town can be a bit of a challenge, so factor in a few extra minutes to navigate the nearby curbside spots. It is not a place for a quiet, intimate dinner; it is a fast-paced environment where the clinking of plastic forks and the sound of sizzling grills set the rhythm. Whether you are grabbing a quick meal before heading to the beach or fueling up for a day of exploring, Gina’s delivers the classic island barbecue experience without any of the fluff.

We had the mini family kalbi and the portions were HUGE!! All sides were good, and kalbi was delicious. I didn’t realize it came with other meats so keep that in mind. The chicken and beef were okay. Mandu was pretty good!

Incredibly delicious plate with a generous amount of food and great flavor. We ordered the Gina special and Meat Jeon, and loved them both. The galbi and chicken was juicy and good smokey flavor, and they gave us four side dishes that paired well with the meat. The store is run by a lovely Korean couple who helped us pick the perfect combo. Highly recommend giving this place a try!!

Very disappointing. Tried this place on a busy night. The Korean garlic chicken was OLD and too TOUGH to chew. The meat jun was sub par. I will stick to my other local spots for Korean BBQ plates. Glad to support local, however the main meat dishes were not good. The sides were okay.
