Furusato Sushi
About
Tradition Meets the Waikiki Coastline
Stepping into Furusato Sushi feels like a quiet departure from the neon buzz of central Waikiki. Located just steps from the cooling Pacific breezes of the shoreline, this spot remains a staple for those seeking precision over pretension. The air inside is consistently chilled, providing a sharp, welcome contrast to the humid, salt-heavy tropical air just outside the doors.
The Art of the Omakase
The kitchen centers its identity around high-quality sashimi and traditional nigiri that emphasizes the natural sweetness of local fish. Regulars often bypass the menu entirely to lean into the chef’s omakase selections, where the focus shifts toward temperature-controlled rice and sharp cuts of ahi. You will hear the rhythmic, hypnotic sound of knives hitting wooden cutting boards, a stark reminder that craftsmanship takes center stage here.
A Local Perspective
While the interiors lean toward a classic, understated aesthetic, be prepared for a space that keeps things compact. It is a cozy, intimate environment that prioritizes the interaction between the diner and the sushi bar. The limited seating creates an exclusive feel, though it does mean that peak dinner hours can get quite lively with chatter echoing against the wood-paneled walls. Whether you are winding down after a day at the beach or looking for a refined start to your Honolulu evening, Furusato Sushi offers a grounded, authentic experience that avoids the tourist-heavy gimmicks of its neighbors.

A small place with 30 seats, that gets diners in and out quickly. Not a place to lollygag but to get in and have good sushi/sashimi. Ingredients tasted fresh.

Went here because of the positive ratings, and was not disappointed! It was my first time trying uni, and I've been missing out. The food was tasty and the service was fast and friendly. Will be back sometime!

Tidy, smartly designed, and intimate restaurant across from the beach and on the main drag in Waikiki, offering delicious sushi made of fresh, impeccable ingredients. Quick, attentive, unobtrusive service. My wife and I had lunch there in March of 2026, and appreciated the good value for the area ($29 for the udon set, pictured). We were also very pleased that they easily accommodated her Celiac allergy and offered gluten free options.

My son and I were in the mood for sushi and wanted something walking distance from our hotel. After being in Japan for two weeks, the prices of course were much higher. But that should be expected on Waikiki Beach across the street from the Duke Statue. Both the rolls and the sushi were large and had great flavor. We had no trouble finishing the Bridge, but we were definitely satisfied. The sake was poured with generosity overflowing into a wooden box. We both left with smiles on our faces.

Unbelievably fast service, there were four chefs and two servers for a relatively small restaurant. Sashimi were the best, so fresh and scrumptious. Dragon roll was also very good, though little heavier on the sauce. Generous portions. Highly recommend

I visited this restaurant on 11/6/25 with my mother and ordered a sushi combination. From the moment we arrived, we noticed that there were quite a lot of small flying insects around our table, which was already concerning. During the meal, I discovered a small white worm-like insect inside one of the cucumber rolls. I had already eaten most of the meal before noticing it. When I informed the server, she told me that they could remake only the rolls. I asked where the worm had come from. She told me that it came from the cucumber and said she had checked the other cucumbers and found no issues. I trusted her explanation, accepted the replacement rolls, and paid the full amount including tip, because I did not want to create a scene while I was with my mother. However, I later learned that her explanation was not accurate. I do not cook myself, so I didn’t know, but my mother told me that this type of worm does not come from cucumbers and is instead commonly associated with fish. If that is the case, the situation becomes much more serious, and I do not believe the server handled it appropriately. I also feel that I ended up paying for something that was not safe to eat, and the response I received did not properly address the contamination issue. My intention in reaching out is to ensure that proper food safety measures are followed so that this does not happen to another customer. I hope the restaurant can take this matter seriously and review its handling procedures.

Went here because it seemed they have some vegetarian options too. Make sure to aso before you order because some items still came topped with roe or salmon. The avocado roll was tasty. Pricey, but wouldn't expect otherwise in this area.

This was a perfect place for our last dîner in Honolulu. We wanted a great sushi place and we're not disappointed!!!! The fish was extremely fresh, and perfectly seasoned with wasabi ( proposed option). The restaurant was nicely decorated, making it a cosy place in this busy area. We loved it.
