A Crispy Escape in the Heart of Honolulu

Finding the perfect fried chicken in urban Honolulu usually involves a long wait, but FryDay offers a focused, no-nonsense approach to comfort food that hits differently. Located near the bustling Kapalama area, this spot cuts through the noise of downtown dining with a menu dedicated to the golden art of the deep fryer.

The Crunch Factor

The magic here is in the batter. It’s light, shattered-glass crispy, and seasoned just enough to let the high-quality poultry take center stage. When you step inside, the smell of seasoned flour and hot oil greets you immediately—it’s the kind of aroma that makes your decision-making process instant. Whether you are grabbing a quick box for a picnic at Ala Moana Beach Park or fueling up during a lunch break, the consistency is impressive.

Why the Locals Keep Returning

FryDay isn't about fancy table service; it’s about hot, fresh food delivered in a takeout-friendly format. The side dishes deserve as much attention as the main event, particularly the seasoned fries, which maintain their structural integrity even after a short drive. Be warned: the parking situation in this corner of the city can be a bit of a puzzle during peak lunch hours, so arrive with a bit of patience. It’s a utilitarian space built for people who prioritize flavor over pretense. If you find yourself craving something salty, hot, and unapologetically fried while traversing the Honolulu landscape, this is your go-to destination for a reliable, satisfying meal.

Great food, great service from Joseph (shout out SD!). Shared the crab cake benedict and ube waffles, soooo declious! The crab cake was crispy on the outside and soft crab inside that mesh well with the poached egg. The ube waffle with the ube sauce is sweet, coconut-y and crispy! We received our food in a timely manner, highly recommend this place but be aware of the crowd later in the morning so plan accordingly (and hungry, big portions!)

We came all the way from Florida specifically for the prime rib loco moco and the ube pancakes and they did not disappoint! The prime rib was tender and flavorful and the ube pancakes were fluffy and the perfect amount of sweetness. Our server Lyn shared with us the secret of the pancakes, they use real potatoes not ube powder. She was very attentive and very friendly. Overall just a great experience and we will be bringing the whole family next year!

Review is based on their famous ube pancake only. We wanted to dine in but there was a massive queue at 12pm. We didn’t expect it to be so busy with it being off the strip. Anyways we decided to get the pancake as a take out & still had to wait 15 mins which was fine. Wow the hype is realll. It was so yummy. Slightly chewy, salty in the middle & then combined with the ube sauce (they were generous & gave us two tubs!) Pretty sure it’s not naturally this purple but who cares cos it complemented the pancakes so well. It was earthy & strong in ube flavour, it wasn’t too sweet & tasted very comforting. The pancakes were huge too but it was so good we ate the whole thing even after having lunch lol.

The long weekend queue line was worth it. We waited in line for 1.5hours on a Saturday morning. There are lots of tables inside, so the line goes fast. The reception hostess was patient with all the waiting customers. All the front of the house staff were fast with orders. We ordered the Ube Pancake and Glazed Lechon Kawali (crispy pork belly). The Ube Pancake was not too sweet nor bland. Perfect for a morning sugar rush without the guilt. Although the Ube flavour is not close enough to the ‘real’ Ube taste. The glazed crispy pork belly was crispy, tender, and savoury. The addition of eggs and side vinegar salsa complimented the sweet pork well. We were so impressed that we only waited 10-15 mins for our food to arrive. Parking can be tricky, but there’s a lot of street parking around the block and across Walmart. Reservation is a must on weekends.

We were seated immediately. We ordered the prime rib moco. It was delicious. I had mine medium rare and my eggs sunny side up. The gravy was very tasty. Not too salty or bland. It was on a generous mound of rice. It was a bit pricey nearly $27, but it was good to try. The hostess was friendly and I think she was from Thailand. The only thing I wanted that they didn't serve was rootbeer soda. I would recommend this place and try some other dishes.

Best ube pancake on all of Oahu! Fluffy, sauce, coconuty, 5 stacked tall! So creamy. Quintessential breakfast diner vibe with quality Hawaiian style food. The Kailua pig eggs Benedict was rich and savory with the mushroom gravy. We wanted to eat everything on the menu! Giant portions, most people were taking leftovers. Cafe latte with flavor was done right. Ice taro matcha latte was much better than you’d get from a matcha shop. Table turnover is a bit slow because they can get very congested and busy in the morning! If you come right at opening time or before 8, you can get seated as a walk in right away. Isabel was a great server, super friendly and quick!

Had the Prime Rib Loco Moco, Denver Omelette & Ube pancakes. The prime rib was well seasoned and cooked to perfection, the sauce was AMAZING and the eggs were just grand! The Denver Omelette was cheesy and the potatoes were perfectly seasoned and crispy on the outside with a soft and fluffy texture inside. The Ube pancakes were so delicious. It was a good mix of Ube/buttermilk pancakes with Ube sauce that was smooth and rich but not overwhelming. Our server Hina was the best! She’s so sweet and attentive and polite. We loved everything here.

We came to Yogurstory on a Friday at 9:30am after my bf had recommended from years ago. It was quick with their wait list; joined 10 minutes before and only waited a few minutes. The parking lot was packed, but we found metered parking on the street. The restaurant has ample seating, so they're able to seat a lot at one time. We ordered the croissant sandwich with fries, short rib loco moco, crab cake benedict, pork belly benedict, and split the ube pancakes for the table. We've eaten at a lot of brunch and lunch around Honolulu, and Yogurstory was by far our favorite! A short rib benedict on the mainland would easily cost $30-40, so $25 and taking leftovers was incredible; AND the quality is unmatched. Service was attentive and friendly, and the food is well worth any wait. The pancakes are SO fluffy, and the short rib loco moco was our favorite - sooo tender. For 4 people, at around $20 per brunch entree, it is totally worth it. Amazing flavor, and we took home leftovers. CanNOT recommend Yogurstory enough - a must-go on any Honolulu stay.

Google maps needs to add few extra stars for Yogur story. Food, Service, Ambiance: Excellent in all respects. Totally understood why there is a huge waiting for this restaurant. If you are in Oahu, Honolulu do not miss out on Yogur story. We had the Ube Pancake, Grilled chicken, Crab cake eggs Benedict, Oinker, Kimchi fried rice 🩷 Taro latte was spot on refreshing, Espresso martini was okay. Yogur story...you were the best thing happened to us. Plenty of parking but a shared one with the rest of the restaurants.
