About
A Refreshing Escape in Kaimuki
Stepping into Frostcity feels like a sudden departure from the humid Honolulu sun. Located right in the heart of the Kaimuki district, this spot has built a loyal following for its distinctive approach to frozen desserts. Unlike traditional Hawaiian shave ice that relies on syrup, Frostcity specializes in snow ice—a texture that lands somewhere between creamy gelato and light, fluffy snow. The blocks are shaved into paper-thin ribbons that melt instantly upon contact with your tongue.
What to Expect on Your Visit
The interior is modest and functional, catering to a grab-and-go crowd that spills out onto the sidewalk. You will often see locals queuing up after dinner for a post-meal treat. The signature here is undoubtedly the Strawberry Snow Ice, which balances a natural fruit sweetness with a condensed milk drizzle that adds a necessary richness. If you are feeling adventurous, the green tea variations offer a pleasant, earthy bitterness that cuts through the sugar.
A quick tip for those driving: parking in this pocket of Honolulu can get tight during peak evening hours, so be prepared to circle the block or walk a short distance from the nearby side streets. The space is relatively compact, meaning it gets quite noisy when the after-school or after-work crowds roll in, but that energetic chatter is part of the local charm. It is the perfect destination for families or friends looking for a quick, cooling hit of flavor without the formality of a sit-down dessert lounge.

While on a late night craving for shaved ice but all places were closed. This location with such amazing ice texture blew Kupo mind away. Many flavors, then feels like an ice ball of cotton candy when devouring. Never had Kupo had such ice, but unfortunately this location is now closed.

Different take on shave ice. This was more creamier, met in your mouth kind. Think more shave icecream, than shave ice. We had pineapple coconut thai basil, mango strawberry and cookies and cream and everything was delicious. The first one with Thai basil was a very unique flavor and my kids didn’t care for it, but I liked it a lot. I still prefer the original shave ice but this was cool to try!

Frostcity in Honolulu delivered a refreshing treat on a warm day! We ordered the strawberry frost and lilikoi frost: super fluffy, finely shaved frozen cream! The strawberry frost was vibrant and naturally sweet, decorated with fresh fruit pieces and chewy mochi toppings that added texture and color. The lilikoi (passion fruit) frost brought that signature tangy, tropical punch — bright, zesty, and not overly sweet, which made it incredibly refreshing. Portions are generous, we ordered one regular and one small. Service was friendly and quick with several open tables since we arrived before dinner. I would assume a place like this may be packed at night. Parking in this area might be difficult at times. There is a small 1-hour parking lot attached to the building. Highly recommend stopping by if you're craving something light and flavorful.
