Encore Saloon
About
A Slice of Baja in Chinatown
Tucked into the historic heart of Honolulu, Encore Saloon brings a refreshing, unpretentious energy to the Chinatown dining scene. If you are looking for a spot that favors loud music, cold drinks, and authentic flavors over white-tablecloth formality, this is your home base. The interior feels like a well-worn neighborhood hangout, complete with weathered wood accents and a bar that stays buzzing long after the sun dips below the horizon.
The Baja-Inspired Menu
The kitchen leans hard into coastal Mexican traditions. You cannot leave without trying the fish tacos; they are the undisputed anchor of the menu, featuring perfectly battered catch that balances a satisfying crunch with a tender center. The salsas carry a genuine heat that pairs perfectly with their extensive tequila and mezcal list. Whether you are craving a bracingly tart margarita or a craft beer to beat the tropical humidity, the drink program is curated for those who appreciate quality over quantity.
Local Vibe and Quirks
The crowd is a diverse mix of locals, service industry workers grabbing a late-night bite, and curious visitors wandering through the district. It gets loud—really loud—during peak weekend hours, making it the wrong place for a quiet business dinner but the right place for a rowdy night out with friends. Parking in this part of Honolulu can be a test of patience, so consider catching a ride-share or enjoying a brisk walk through the nearby arts district. It is a no-frills, high-personality venue that perfectly captures the gritty, vibrant soul of Honolulu’s downtown nightlife.

Pretty good food and a decent house margarita. The Tree Hunger plate was good. Edit: recently changed their menu. Compare for yourself in the pictures.

Sweetest bartender. The mushroom taco is good but the barbacoa is unreal. The salsa roja has perfect heat and the margaritas tasty. Taco Tuesday is alive in Chinatown Honolulu!

Husband and I really enjoyed our lunch here! We each had a baja fish taco that we both devoured. We also shared a portion of nachos with carne asada as well as a bowl of the street corn and those two were similarly tasty. We split a Chris Kattan cocktail between us both and it was both pretty and delicious. Service was especially kind and thoughtful. Highly recommend and would come back in the future!
