A New York Steakhouse Tradition in Waikiki

Tucked within the bustling heart of Waikiki, Empire Steak House brings the storied intensity of midtown Manhattan to the Hawaiian islands. The space is anchored by rich wood accents and a sophisticated, polished aesthetic that feels far removed from the sandy beaches just a few blocks away. It is an ideal setting for high-stakes business dinners or celebrations that require a quieter, more refined backdrop.

The Art of the Dry-Aged Cut

The culinary focus here is uncompromisingly centered on USDA Prime beef. The restaurant is celebrated for its signature dry-aged porterhouse for two, which arrives sizzling on a platter, releasing an aroma of butter and charred, umami-rich fat. The steaks undergo a meticulous aging process, resulting in a depth of flavor that is often missing from standard steakhouses. Beyond the meat, the kitchen turns out classic, decadent sides like creamed spinach and buttery hash browns that feel like a direct link to old-school New York dining.

What to Expect

Expect a professional, attentive service style that anticipates your needs before you ask. While the dining room remains elegant, the acoustics can carry conversations, making it feel lively rather than hushed. One minor detail to note: the popularity of the location means that evening prime time can be quite busy, so planning your arrival around the bustling Waikiki tourist flow is recommended. For those looking for a premium glass of red to pair with their ribeye, the wine list is expansive, leaning heavily into robust California Cabernets that hold their own against the heavy cuts of meat. It is a place that values tradition, consistency, and the quiet satisfaction of a perfectly executed medium-rare steak.

Mary and Charlie were absolutely fabulous! We had a bigger party but they took great care of us and definitely kept the good energy in the room. For Hawaii tourists- this place is an absolute must!

We had such an amazing dinner here. The staff was so attentive and the food was amazing. Roz was our server and she was fantastic. Could not have asked for a better experience for our honeymoon

Don’t waste your time or money. Service was awful. Took 30 minutes just to get a cocktail menu, then another 30 for drinks (4 old fashioneds, 1 cosmopolitan, 2 iced teas)—and the bar was empty. Our mains didn’t come out together, and we had to keep telling a random server (not even our waiter) what was missing. Food was just as bad: steak unevenly seasoned, lamb unevenly cooked and served with brown gravy, and mushy rigatoni passed off as “pappardelle” with a sauce that tasted like a frozen TV dinner. The manager admitted the lamb was undercooked but then tried to convince me the pasta was correct. Our waiter was nowhere to be found—too busy with “coffees and desserts” for other tables. Nothing was done to fix or even acknowledge the issues. We still tipped, but only out of principle. Check the photos. Don’t go! FYI, I emailed them right away after Empire replied to this review asking me to message them. I am still waiting for a response. It’s 10/14 as of today.

View is excellent! No complaints about that at all. Prices are extremely expensive & high, which is normally no problem when traveling to Vegas, NYC or extravagant cities...but this restaurant might have a hard time catering to locals. Since Empire is located at top of a condo type of building, the location might be hard to attract the clientele needed to survive! Food was tasty, but did come out a tad cold. Wait was over 45+min for the entrees. Side dishes were ok, but overall everything not worth the price. Our server was new, but she was nice & kind. Bar was busy & there was a great piano player for Entertainment. Not sure if we'll be back, as steaks are over $100-$120+ and we could honestly get more food at Morton's, Signature or Ruth Chris that could taste better & cost cheaper. (I do apologize for this comment but there was a party of 3 next us with a toddler. They brought in her ipad & had the volume HIGH. Parties that were 4 tables away could hear it! I'm a Mother & Aunt as well & understand that it entertains the children, but at this type of high class restaurant it was disturbing & hard to carry a convo when the ipad monies were loud! ☹️)

I want to say a huge thank you to Natasha who made dinner very special for us. She was very attentive to detail, guided us through our menu and we loved every bit of what we ordered. She smiled all through and we got along so well. It was my birthday and I had blown out my candle…she came by and offered to lit it up again so I could get amazing pictures. I’m so happy I chose Empire Steakhouse to celebrate my big day because I wouldn’t have met a beautiful soul like her. ❣️Food 10/10. Ambience 10/10, welcoming staff 10/10. I made my reservation via Resy which was so easy. I highly recommend

We visited Empire Steakhouse in Honolulu three times in late February and early March 2026—once for dinner and twice for Happy Hour - and each visit was exceptional. The views from the restaurant are absolutely stunning, adding so much to the overall atmosphere. Our dinner was excellent: the NY Sirloin was perfectly prepared, and the Catch of the Day was fresh and beautifully done. The service truly stood out. Gaby and Patricia were warm, friendly, and engaging, and their attention made every visit memorable. The manager, Jun, came around on a couple of occasions to check in and make sure everything was perfect, which we really appreciated. His commitment to guest experience is clear. We’ll definitely return on our next trip. Highly recommended for both the food and the experience.

Empire Steakhouse on Oahu is an absolute gem! From the moment we arrived, the entire experience was top-notch. The food was incredible — perfectly prepared steaks, fresh seafood, and every dish was packed with flavor. Chef Mark is truly talented and clearly takes pride in every plate that comes out of the kitchen. You can taste the quality and attention to detail in everything. A huge shoutout as well to the manager, Jun, who made sure our experience was flawless from start to finish. His hospitality and professionalism really stood out. The views are beautiful, the atmosphere is upscale yet welcoming, and the staff is genuinely friendly and attentive. If you’re looking for an amazing dining experience on Oahu, Empire Steakhouse is a must-visit. We can’t wait to come back!

We brought our visiting family members to check out the views during its Happy Hour. Everyone enjoyed the views and service from everyone there. The food was okay, but the beer was cold and nice. The cocktail shrimps were a bit overcooked, the kabob was decent, the steak sliders were pretty good, and the burger sliders were just okay.

Not recommended... We were excited to go to the happy hour dinner at Empire Steakhouse and took the glass elevator up. On the elevator floor, there was brown sludge. I informed Jun,the manager, upon arrival, and he explained that when it rains, it can drip onto the floor. However, by the end of our dinner, there was even more sludge present, as if it wasn't even cleaned after our first complaint to management. The bartenders were pleasant and the cosmopolitan drinks were excellent, but the dinner experience itself was disappointing. I ordered the New York steak, which had an odor and, upon tasting, clearly was spoiled. I informed the staff, who said it was “dry-aged.” I asked to speak with Jun, the manager, and although he replaced the steak with a ribeye upgrade, there was no formal apology. As a graduate chef, I know dry aging does not result in rotten meat, so this excuse was unacceptable. The 'upgraded' ribeye itself was adequate, but it arrived 20 minutes after the rest of my party had finished eating. At the end of the meal, we were presented with a full priced check with no courtesies. When I brought this up, the manager explained that the upgrade was not charged, but I noted that there should have been no upcharge since the replacement was for a bad cut of meat. He then blamed the bartender for not communicating before presenting the check. He then took the check and gave us 25% off. Despite the staff attempts at being friendly, the experience was terribly mishandled. At no point was a formal apology offered, nor was any reasonable compensation provided—such as complimentary drinks for the inconvenience. Speaking with other owners in the area, I found this seems to be a recurring issue at this restaurant. In summary, while the staff were nice, the management’s handling of a serious issue was inadequate. I wish them luck, but sadly, I cannot recommend this restaurant based on our experience.
