About
A Modern Twist on the Classic Shrimp Truck
Tucked away within the bustling urban landscape of Kaka’ako, Ebinomi brings a refined, chef-driven approach to the iconic Hawaiian garlic shrimp plate. If you are wandering through this trendy Honolulu district and find yourself craving something that balances convenience with genuine culinary craft, this is your destination. You won't find the standard roadside shack experience here; instead, expect a sophisticated counter-service operation that prioritizes high-quality, plump crustaceans and house-made sauces.
The Flavor Profile
The menu focuses heavily on depth of flavor rather than sheer quantity. Their signature shrimp plates are prepared with a meticulous balance of garlic, butter, and aromatics that cling perfectly to each shell-on piece. The aroma of toasted garlic greets you the moment you approach the service window. It is the kind of comfort food that benefits from being enjoyed at the nearby outdoor seating areas, though you should be prepared for the typical Honolulu humidity—and perhaps a bit of competition for the limited picnic tables during the peak lunch hour.
Why Locals Keep Coming Back
While many visitors flock to the North Shore for shrimp, Ebinomi has carved out a loyal following among Honolulu locals who appreciate a shorter drive to Kaka’ako for their fix. The presentation is crisp and modern, matching the artistic energy of the neighborhood’s famous wall murals. It is ideal for a quick midday meal or a casual sunset dinner before hitting the local breweries. Just a heads-up: the preparation is made-to-order, so while the wait is never excessive, it is worth lingering for a few minutes while the scent of searing butter and garlic fills the air.

Omg my new favorite garlic shrimp place. They give u a nice size plate and plenty of garlic sauce for the rice. My go to place from 9 years ago is no longer and I have tried other places in the last 6 days and hands down this is the best. Any time I come back this will be my go to place for garlic shrimp. Don't skip on this place a must try.

We got the curry shrimp and it was amazing. I got the spicy one and it had just the amount of kick. My boyfriend got the not spicy one and he said it was perfect for him. I definitely recommend coming here. Good amount of food for good prices.

I can not speak highly enough of this wonderful place and staff. We found it by just exploring the city. There was no line but a constant flow of people. The staff was kind and not pushy at all. Very happy to have tourist come to their restaurant unlike the more popular places in the area. We ordered both the garlic shrimp and the chicken curry. The garlic shrimp came out as soon as we sat down right outside the restaurant. We for sure thought it was for another table. No way it was for us. But it was. I dug in immediately, didn’t even wait for my husband’s curry that came out about 5 minutes later. I thought the garlic shrimp was the most amazing thing I’ve ever eaten, until I tried my husband’s chicken curry. We got spicy and it was the perfect level of spice! It was hands down the best curry I’ve had. We were on the island a week and EbiNomi was BYFAR the BEST food we have had in the island!!! It is a must try. You will probably go multiple times like we did. The outside seating area is very quiet and away from the super touristy stuff right on the strip even though is on the strip. It was so nice to sit outside in a quiet area and enjoy wonderful food. A little side note, when I spoke with the owner after our meal, I said it was the best meal we have had on the island and he was genuinely so happy and pleased to hear that. He gave me a hug! You can tell that his love language is serving his food to others and them enjoying it. He was the sweetest man and so pleased to be able to share his food.

Shrimp was ok. It's very garlicky and I liked flavor. But the rice was really hard. I think it was uncook. The rice was not edible tbh. It was very disappointing.

Compared to Jenny’s Shrimp Truck in the North Shore, this tastes like the shrimp and garlic sauce were cooked separately then tossed together at the end. The garlic is sharp (perhaps simmer it for longer) and the shrimp tastes unseasoned if you get a bite with no sauce. The white rice could use some furikake. The Thai shrimp curry plate (choice of spicy or not) was actually better, I would come back for that. There’s outdoor patio seating, about 3 tables

Highly recommend the curry shrimp! Generous portion sizes. It’s definitely spicy so you’ve been warned (if you are iffy ask for mild)

We originally found Ebinomi on YouTube as a “better than North Shore shrimp” type recommendation, and honestly, it was a great find — especially because it’s right in Waikiki. For GF notes: the garlic shrimp is sautéed, not deep fried. No mac salad cross-contamination issue there, though they do have fried items in the kitchen, so use your own judgment depending on your sensitivity level. My wife is gluten intolerant and had no reaction. Big plus: they peel the shrimp for you, which is amazing. Big shrimp, tons of flavor, and no messy hands. Also, it’s kind of a hidden spot — look for the courtyard behind Marugame Udon. Seating is limited outdoors, so it may be better as a takeout stop. Great hidden gem in Waikiki.

Ebinomi Honolulu is fantastic! I highly recommend the EbiKahuku (Garlic Shrimps). The dish was incredibly flavourful and delicious, with the garlic and seasoning perfectly balanced—definitely not overpowering. A must-try spot for Hawaiian garlic shrimp!
