Duck Lee Chinese Express Foods
About
A Local Staple for Honolulu Comfort
Tucked away near the bustling heart of Honolulu, Duck Lee Chinese Express Foods serves as a reliable cornerstone for those seeking classic, no-frills Cantonese-inspired plates. If you are navigating the streets near the center of the city and find your appetite peaking, this is where you go for a quick, hearty meal that skips the pretense.
The Flavor Profile
The kitchen here excels at the staples that define local Chinese-American takeout. You will notice the rich, savory aroma of soy-glazed meats hitting the air the moment you walk through the door. Their roast duck is the clear anchor of the menu, featuring skin that crackles with a distinct golden sheen and meat that stays tender under the heat lamps. It is the kind of lunch that demands a cold soda and a quiet place to sit, as the portions are generous enough to sustain you through a long workday.
The Experience
Expect a functional, utilitarian space designed for efficiency rather than lingering. The staff moves with a practiced speed that reflects the fast-paced nature of the urban Honolulu neighborhood. It can get a bit crowded during the noon rush, and finding a quick spot to leave your car requires a bit of local patience, but the trade-off is consistent, hot food served in generous wax-paper-lined boxes. This spot is perfect for the hungry local or the visitor who values authentic, accessible flavors over white-tablecloth service. Whether you are grabbing a plate of char siu or a classic fried rice to go, Duck Lee captures the straightforward, utilitarian spirit of Honolulu’s diverse culinary landscape.

The har gow and other dim sums are very big and delicious.. the roast chicken is very delicious. And the roast duck authentic flavor with very authentic and bbq pork was delicious tasting... the Duck Sauce is the best that I ever tasted. I recommend getting a couple of take out to go sauces and put it on your fried rice or steamed rice. Yummy yummy tummy tummy. The food here Trump's any of the Posh restaurants on the Waikiki strip

The duck was good. Also there was no line to wait in and they chop the duck right in front of you. But the only bad thing was that it had mostly bone then meat but it was good. Atmosphere feels warm and only $22 (If you only get half a duck, Fast service, Great food, and Good atmosphere.

Unfortunately, the food here was not really good. The store itself is dated and it feels like you are back in 1990.

I absolutely love the dim sum here. As a half-Cantonese kid, their dumplings are more in line with traditional HK flavors than Hawaiian style. So their Siu Mai is more like Siu Mai than pork hash if ya get me;) The half moon and ha gow is delicious and very big. The char siu is another fav from here, really I think everything is good! Service can be surly though! Depends which Aunty you get and how she feels that day! Haha.

The “Beef Brisket Lo Mein” had nothing but steamed bok choy and beef sauce on top of a bed of flavorless ramen noodles, no stir-fried vegetables as advertised. 👎🏽 Our “Roast Meat on Rice” order came with burned and bitter spareribs, dried roast duck, yet eatable roast pork.🙅Very disappointing comparing to previous reviews.😫

Reasonably priced, yummy food! My parents loves their roasted duck while my husband loves their roasted pork. I personally love their cold ginger chicken. They have some dim sum and hot food items but haven't tried those since we usually get the roasted meats.

Had never heard of this place. Thanks to a video from Amanda and Felix Eats, I was intrigued. This place is currently takeout only, and there is a surcharge for using a credit card. I chose the 3 item BBQ combo plate with roast pork, roast duck, and black bean spareribs off the steam table. The roast duck was good, the roast pork was fabulous, as was the black bean spareribs. Despite Felix's admonishment to ask for the fatty roast pork, I just let them give me what they gave me, which was lean. The pork was tender, juicy, tender, flavorful, and the skin was so crisp and crunchy without being hard. I had to chuckle as the server piled on the black bean spareribs. That was a meal in itself! It was a bit spicy, which was great. Lean and tender with great flavor. All of this for $17 plus tax and tip. Unbelievable! Went back a couple of days later to confirm the quality. Got the same thing, although the roast pork was fattier. Yes, this is a winner in my and my wife's book. Both times she and I shared the combo, and had about half left over.
