A Sip of Tranquility Amidst Honolulu's Buzz
Dragon Tea offers a much-needed reset from the high-energy humidity of Waikiki. Stepping inside, the sharp, aromatic scent of steep-brewed Oolong and roasted Jasmine instantly masks the salt-heavy air of the Pacific. It is the kind of place designed for slow afternoons where the clatter of ceramic cups replaces the typical urban traffic noise.
The Art of the Steep
Unlike standard cafe chains, this spot treats every pot as a craft. You will find an expansive selection of high-grade loose-leaf varieties, from earthy Pu-erh to delicate, floral white teas. The staff here moves with a deliberate, rhythmic precision, often explaining the regional origins of the leaves as they pour. Their signature milk teas rely on house-made tea bases rather than powders, resulting in a cleaner flavor profile that is noticeably less cloying than typical sugary alternatives.
Local Nuances
The space is intentionally intimate, which makes it perfect for a solo book reader or a quiet catch-up session. Just be prepared to get creative with your storage; the space is quite compact, and chairs are tucked tightly together, adding to that authentic, bustling tea-house atmosphere found in older districts. While parking in this pocket of Honolulu can be a test of patience, the lingering taste of a perfectly balanced boba tea makes the walk worth the effort. Whether you are looking to escape the heat or simply appreciate the nuance of a properly handled steep, Dragon Tea serves as a grounded, flavorful retreat for anyone exploring the city.

Leilani Taiwanese Kitchen (formerly known as Dragon Tea) is a great casual spot for boba drinks or delicious food. I really like the honeydew with fresh milk drink along with the beef noodle soup and the braised beef bento with pickled vegetables. As someone who has visited Taiwan, I can definitely say this is as authentic as it gets. There are a few stalls of parking on the property but if that’s full, there is a larger adjacent lot with more stalls.

The beef noodle soup was ok. Broth at medium spiciness delivered the heat. I wish there was more depth of flavor. The popcorn chicken was good. The Dan Bing was a bit thick, but I appreciated the pork floss they put in it. The potstickers had a nice flavor. My friend said that the lou rou fan was OK.

I was born and raised in Taiwan, so I have to give Dragon Tea an unreserved thumbs up 👍 Many dishes are completely authentic to the hometown taste -- esp the dumplings, noodles, and the fried chicken. They may not be showstoppers, but they are definitely comfort food! Top recommendations: Popcorn Chicken (with essential basil), Sesame Noodles (includes peanut paste), and any Dumplings (boiled or fried, they are super juicy) My only complaint: DT needs proper soup spoons!! I can't believe we were served beef noodles with a regular tea spoon.
