Denny's (208 Kapahulu Avenue)
About
A Neighborhood Staple Near Waikiki
Located just a stone's throw from the emerald fairways of Ala Wai Golf Course, this Kapahulu Avenue fixture serves as a reliable anchor for locals and tourists wandering away from the main strip of Waikiki. Stepping inside, you are greeted by the familiar, aromatic blend of brewing coffee and sizzling griddles—a scent that defines the American diner experience in the heart of Hawaii.
Classic Comfort with a Local Edge
While the menu anchors itself in iconic staples like the Grand Slam, this Honolulu location benefits from its vibrant neighborhood setting. It is the kind of place where the late-night post-beach crowd mixes with early-rising surfers grabbing a hearty meal before hitting the waves. The acoustics can get lively during the weekend brunch rush, echoing with the clatter of ceramic plates and the hum of casual conversation, making it ideal for those who prefer an energetic, unpretentious dining environment.
What to Expect
The service is efficient, catering to the transient nature of the surrounding Kapahulu district. While the parking lot can feel a bit compressed during peak hours—a common quirk of the area—the accessibility remains a huge draw for families and road-trippers alike. Whether you are craving a late-night Moons Over My Hammy or just a quiet booth to plan your day in Honolulu, this diner offers a predictable, comforting retreat from the more upscale culinary scene found elsewhere on the island.

I visited this location for a meal and found it to be a very reliable and welcoming experience. The menu features an extensive selection of classic diner favorites available at any time of day, and my food was served hot, fresh, and exactly as ordered. The breakfast items were particularly satisfying, with fluffy pancakes and perfectly cooked eggs. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, making it a great spot for a relaxed meal whether you are dining alone or with a group. The service was friendly and efficient, with our server checking in regularly to ensure our coffee was refilled and that we had everything we needed. It is a dependable choice for hearty comfort food and a pleasant dining environment.

My wife and I have had breakfast at this Denny’s, twice since we have been on vacation. From the moment you walked in the door, it was very clean, you were greeted and sat. The servers were great. The food came in amazing times with no issues and prepared as ordered. Our drinks were never left empty. We were asked if we wanted dessert both times but we were too full, lol. The prices were reasonable. Just a great all around experience. Thank you

I went to the Denny's my last day in Hawaii It's right next door to the hotel I was staying in and breakfast can be eat or miss most places. I tried the Salted Caramel Banana Pancake Slam and I really enjoyed it. I got mine with sunny side up eggs, and pork sausage links it came with hash browns. The pancakes were light and fluffy, also not too sweet. The eggs and hash browns were cooked perfectly. Honestly the sausage links were just OK. They might have cooked a little too long because they seemed to have shriveled up. All in all a solid breakfast to start my last day on vacation.

Ben was one of the best servers I’ve ever had. I’ve never met someone so funny and down to earth. It honestly made the food taste better with the level of customer service he was giving us. Thank you so much Ben for the great experience. We will definitely be coming back to Dennys again!!!

Alex was our server and he was awesome, provided great service, took care of us on a timely basis. Pleasant to talk to and never talks bad about other customers while working. Great character!! Went over the menu and showed us the popular dishes. Even showed us the over 55 menu, saved us some money.

I’ve been to this location so many times and never felt compelled to leave a review, but this time the service was above and beyond! Ben took such great care of our ‘ohana, interacted with our little one, and gave great recommendations for things we’ve never tried before. Mahalo for being so patient and enthusiastic, you made our visit so enjoyable! Will definitely be back to request our favorite server :)

We had our first meal of our three-generation family trip at Denny’s. Overall, the food was a bit on the salty side, but we were able to enjoy a filling meal. One small issue was that the bread in the sandwich was over-toasted and quite hard, which made it a little uncomfortable to eat. On the other hand, the burger bun was good. We appreciated that soda refills were available, and the staff checked with us politely while cleaning around the table to make sure we were comfortable. We were slightly concerned after seeing some negative Google reviews from 2–3 years ago, but overall our experience was satisfying. Our table server was friendly and attentive as well. If we visit Oahu again in the future, we would consider stopping by once more.

Our go to breakfast in Waikiki. Shout out to our regular waitress Alyssa (beep beep) who embodied the Aloha spirit. A bit of a hidden gem down the end of the street we could always get a table no problem. Their breakfast so delicious and filling. Perhaps underappreciated as a restaurant always available to those on the mainland. For international visitors who don't have Dennys in their country a must try! Their milkshakes also delicious and great value, refills the glass 2 to 3 times. Their dinner meals also brilliant, particularly the Bourbon skillet chicken on a bed of vegetables.
