Island Soul Meets Mediterranean Spice

Tucked away near the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Da Spot has carved out a dedicated following among students and locals alike. It is the kind of place where the air is consistently thick with the aroma of slow-simmered Moroccan spices and savory Caribbean seasonings. The kitchen operates with an unpretentious energy, focusing on hearty, nutritious plates that defy the typical fast-casual mold.

The Signature Experience

The menu is a refreshingly eclectic mix, ranging from tender Moroccan lamb tagine to jerk chicken that packs a genuine, lingering heat. Many regulars swear by their house-made beverages; the ginger-infused juices are sharp, biting, and arguably the best way to cut through the richness of the main courses. It is a no-frills, counter-service environment that prioritizes flavor over flash, making it an ideal refueling stop after a long day of classes or hiking in the nearby Koolau Range.

What to Know Before You Go

Because the food is prepared with such care, the service can feel a bit deliberate, which is just code for saying it is not a grab-and-go spot if the lunch rush hits hard. Seating is sparse and practical, often feeling like a crowded communal living room. Parking in this part of Honolulu can be a chore, so be prepared to loop around the block a few times or walk a bit to secure a spot. Despite the minor logistical hurdles, the value and the depth of flavor found in their Mediterranean-inspired platters remain a cornerstone of the Moiliili dining scene.

I really like going to Da Spot... it’s a solid choice if you want something different from the usual routine. It is definitely more of a fusion style than a traditional plate lunch spot, and the flavors are really impressive. The menu has a lot of Mediterranean and North African influences that feel fresh and well-executed. Every time I go, I am reminded of just how massive the portions are. You get a lot of food for what you pay, and I almost always end up with a second meal for later, which makes it a great value. The food itself is consistently tasty. The meats are well-marinated, and the sides like the saffron rice and various salads have a lot of depth to them. It feels a bit healthier than a lot of other options around town while still being incredibly filling. The standout experience for me was visiting on a Wednesday night. My daughter and I went in for a quick bite and were treated to local jazz musicians playing live. It was unexpectedly fun and completely changed the vibe of the dinner. The music was great and created this relaxed, cool atmosphere that made me want to linger a lot longer than I originally planned. It turned a regular meal into a really memorable night out. If you like good fusion food and live music, catching them on a Wednesday is definitely the way to do it. It is a unique spot that does its own thing really well.

I was here before with someone & my experience was fine but this time I’m by myself & the person who was preparing my plate said usually they will let you sample the food before serving but his shift is almost over & waiting for his reliever so no time for sampling & when I try to order a smoothie the lady said it’s an old menu so they’re out on most of the ingredients they only had mix berries so I had slim pickings

We recently had the pleasure of working with Da Spot Restaurant to cater our Iftar event at our local mosque, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their service. From the very beginning, their team was incredibly accommodating and respectful of our needs, especially in ensuring that all food was prepared Halal for our fasting community. That meant so much to us, and they handled everything with professionalism and care. The food was absolutely amazing — flavorful, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. Our community truly enjoyed every dish. Their flexibility throughout the planning process made coordinating such a large event much easier. A special thank you to Ako for your dedication, communication, and support in making this event a success. Your efforts did not go unnoticed. We also sincerely appreciate both delivery drivers who stayed a little extra and patiently waited while we finished setting up. That level of kindness and professionalism speaks volumes. Mahalo for all your hard work and for helping us host a meaningful and successful Iftar for our community. We look forward to working with you again. — Mahasen

Excellent food, generous portions and good prices for the Waikiki area. Ate there twice in a row for the good balance of protein and veggies. Lots of menu options catering to all sorts of diets and gives a very healthy after feeling in contrast to fast food.

A fantastic halal find in Honolulu. Spicy chicken with 2 scoops of rice and salad only $9.38. That is an amazing price for Honolulu. Has a community feel and with lots of locals here. Was recommended by someone I met and it did not disappoint. I would highly recommend. Something for everyone, meat, fish and vegetable dishes available.

We had a great experience at Da Spot. I liked having the options right in front of us. I had the coconut lemon fish and subbed the Mac salad. Highly recommend both. My wife got the chicken parm I think it was also very good. The rice is great on its own but was even better with the sauces. Great prices for the amount of food as well!
