Cuu Long ll Vietnamese Restaurant
About
A Taste of Vietnam in the Heart of Honolulu
Stepping into Cuu Long II is like walking into a friend’s kitchen in the middle of the island. Tucked away in a Honolulu commercial strip, this no-frills spot is beloved for its commitment to the foundational flavors of traditional Vietnamese home cooking. The air is thick with the aromatic steam of star anise and charred ginger, a hallmark of their slow-simmered phở broth.
The Pho Experience
Locals head here when the desire for a restorative, hearty bowl of soup takes over. The broth is clarity-focused and savory, lacking the heavy oils found in mass-market versions. Regulars often pair their bowls with the crisp, golden-fried spring rolls, which provide a necessary crunch against the tender rice noodles. The menu leans into family-style comfort, meaning the portions are generous and the presentation is refreshingly unpretentious.
What to Expect
This is a place for those who prioritize the plate over the posh decor. It is functional and brightly lit, making it an ideal pit stop for a quick lunch during a workday or a casual dinner with close friends. If you visit during peak lunch hours, expect a bustling, high-energy environment where the clinking of spoons against ceramic bowls provides the background track. While parking in the area can be a bit of a localized puzzle, the reward is a meal that remains consistently authentic to its roots. It is the kind of neighborhood gem that defines the diverse culinary landscape of Oahu, offering a genuine slice of Southeast Asian soul without any added fanfare.

I found a pho broth to taste little plain. Not the best pho I ever had but one positive is that they do give you a lot of tendons in soup. I did feel my stomach get upset about 30 min after meal which usually happens to me when either the hygiene is not the best or the food is not stored properly. I was expecting a little better for the high price of pho

Super delicious rice noodles with the juiciest, most flavorful lemongrass chicken. Just such a delight to eat crispy veggies and herbs on a hot day here. The owner was so sweet too and chatted with us. This spot has been around for ~20+ years, too!

AMAZING pork banh mi!! The pork is so so delicious and there is a lot in the sandwich. Generous amount of pickled veggies and cilantro, as well. The other dishes we got were also very tasty and hit the spot. Overall, yummy Vietnamese food and an extensive menu. Highly recommend!
