Cucina Moon
About
A Slice of Italy Under the Honolulu Sun
Stepping into Cucina Moon feels less like entering a typical Waikiki eatery and more like discovering a hidden trattoria tucked away from the main tourist drag. The air inside hums with the rhythmic clatter of ceramic plates and the unmistakable aroma of garlic sautéing in olive oil, creating an intimate space where the focus remains squarely on the plate.
Hand-Crafted Traditions
The kitchen prides itself on a foundation of scratch-made pastas and locally sourced island ingredients, bridging the gap between Mediterranean tradition and Hawaiian bounty. Signature dishes often highlight the catch of the day, prepared with a light lemon-caper reduction that balances the richness of the house-made fettuccine. You won't find overly heavy sauces here; instead, the chefs rely on the integrity of their fresh tomatoes and high-quality imported cheeses to define the flavor profile.
The Local Experience
This spot is ideal for those seeking a quiet date night or a relaxed dinner after a long day near the coast. Be prepared for a cozy, tight-knit seating arrangement—it is the type of place where you might accidentally overhear the conversation at the next table, but that only adds to the neighborhood charm. While parking in this part of Honolulu can be a bit of a scramble, the walk from the nearby parking structures offers a pleasant breeze and a chance to enjoy the tropical evening air before tucking into a plate of al dente goodness. Whether you are craving a robust glass of Italian wine or a perfectly charred pizza crust, Cucina Moon delivers a grounded, honest meal that feels both sophisticated and accessible.

Order take out (Bolognese and Carbonara). Food was ready on time, flavorful, not too heavy, and creamy, and like that the menu isn’t huge. However, I do think it is a bit pricey. Parking was a bit hectic but there is a parking lot outside and a parking garage below. I do look forward to trying their other items. If you don’t want to wait on parking I deff recommend ordering take out.

Lacking in atmosphere and ambiance but all there for the food. If you’re looking for really good pasta this could very well be one of the best places. The music they were playing in the background was so nice and jazzy but really didn’t match the atmosphere of the place. I think it has a lot to do with the location. 2nd floor of a building on McCully. I normally like to eat my spaghetti or any long pasta with the help of a spoon to twirl my fork on. I had to ask for a spoon. The table setting was very minimal. A paper napkin with a fork. A jug of water and glasses. Nothing special. You will not be wowed walking in to the place. They have an open kitchen setting that looks like was blocked from one side (main dining area). The staff was dressed very nicely and were very friendly. If you’re looking for a nice quiet place to dine with nice ambiance, I wouldn’t come here but if you want some good pasta, then yes, I would come here. I’m also wondering if they purposely limit the juice selection because of the menu and they would like people to order wine with their meals. Otherwise I think something more than just guava juice would be nice.

Cute restaurant. Corn ribs and shrimp were delicious and wine selection was solid. Our selected pasta wasn't to our taste but cute spot for date night regardless.

Food quality & taste was excellent 👌 that it made up for... the portion size (could be a tad bit larger), the lack of salad dressing (recommend they should toss the dressing on the salad 🤔 maybe add a squeeze of lemon), service (server could be a little more upbeat and speak louder), and simple decor (I don't know what it is but it seems to be missing something) None of which were bad at all, just needs improvement. Fix these and definitely a 5 ⭐ place for sure. Oh... And be sure to make a reservation

The serving sizes were a nice change! Just the right amount instead of gorging ourselves on huge amounts of pasta. The focaccia is house made and delish. A small selection of wines available, the Italian red was nice.

The pasta is delicious with a distinct handmade consistency and substantial feel in mouth. The sauces (we had the bolognese and tomato cream) were flavorful with depth and character. I'm interested to try the other sauces. At the price point, would be good to serve some bread with olive oil/butter. The atmosphere needs a bit of work.

Upstairs of a strip mall is its location. The menu was simple with Italian pastas and a few other choices. I tried the ribeye with salad and it was tender and flavorful. The pastas were okay without the wow factor. The sitting area was small and shared the space with a poke place. The service was very friendly and attentive. Parking maybe a pain, but there’s some underground parking that I haven’t had a chance to use. Next time, we will just walk instead.

A Great Find for Fresh Pasta in Honolulu! I was really happy to come across Cucina Moon, a spot that serves excellent fresh pasta in Honolulu. They make their noodles in-house, and the texture is wonderfully chewy with a delightful fragrance. As someone who loves pasta, I even enjoyed the noodles on their own without any sauce. I tried the Bolognese, and my husband had the Garlic Shrimp Sauce Pasta. Both dishes were delicious, and we also enjoyed their focaccia and Gelato. The staff was super friendly, taking the time to explain the menu in detail. We'll definitely be back, as Cucina Moon is now our go-to pasta spot in Hawaii.
