CJ'S New York Style Delicatessen
About
A Slice of Manhattan in the Heart of Honolulu
Stepping into CJ's New York Style Delicatessen feels like a sudden transit from the tropical humidity of Oahu into a bustling corner of the Upper West Side. This spot brings the salt-cured traditions of the East Coast directly to the Pacific. The air is thick with the scent of steaming corned beef and sharp mustard, a sharp contrast to the salty sea breeze just a few miles away in the city center.
The Deli Experience
The menu leans heavily into the classics. You will find massive, towering pastrami sandwiches stacked high enough to challenge your jaw, served alongside house-made pickles that provide a satisfying, lip-puckering crunch. They prioritize the essentials: high-quality meats, fresh rye bread, and an no-nonsense assembly style that values speed and portion size above all else.
It is an ideal destination for a quick, heavy lunch during a workday or for those moments when you crave something distinctly savory rather than island-style plate lunches. The space is efficient and functional; keep in mind that during the peak lunch hour rush, the lines can spill out, and finding a quick seat requires a bit of patience and timing. The clatter of trays and the hum of chatter create an energetic, urban soundtrack that feels distinctly authentic to the deli culture they emulate. Whether you are a transplant from the mainland looking for a piece of home or a local resident hunting for a robust meal that hits the spot, CJ's delivers a consistent, high-protein experience that stands out in the local food scene.

They were understaffed today so I don't blame them for the longer wait to seat. The staff that was there was super friendly! I got the cob salad and onion rings. The salad looked great until I pushed back the toppings and found a bunch of bad lettuce underneath. I had to pick through the whole thing before I could eat it and pulled out at least a handful of rotten greens. I was so hungry that I still ate it. Now I have a wicked stomach ache. I wish I didn't choose this restaurant for my last meal in Waikiki. It was close to my hotel and it was raining so I went here for convince. I won't go back. Update: I've now had two days of tummy trouble since this meal. Not a safe kitchen, especial since only ordered a salad and onion rings. Highly do not recommend!

Pigeons beg you for it! Located super conveniently in the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort, this deli has plenty of local dishes and local ingredients. My party all went here multiple times, we all shared bites just to try as much as we could. I have to say, pretty darned good for the pricing. Everywhere else here was quite expensive! The place (and all of the others here) are riddled with pigeons, you really can't get away from them because idiots keep feeding them. They will literally land on your table. The staff has a broom at-the-ready for them. Aside from the pigeons, it's nice and shaded, they have a bar, great prices, good food for the dollar and I would certainly go back!

Food was good, but not great. My Dickman sandwich was a bit skimpy on the sauce, but they brought me some horseradish when I asked and that helped; however, the bread was still dry. That being said, the atmosphere was really cool and the seating was ample. The wait staff was friendly and efficient, if not super enthusiastic.

Great service but not the best Reuben I’ve ever had. Lots of meat, so if u like meat it’s for you. They have screen nettings up for the birds, so only one was in here. Good spot for kids that want pizza or subs or burgers though.

One of the busier restaurants inside the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort, this place stands out for serving breakfast all day that’s something I found really convenient. The portions are large and generous, and the food is fresh and flavorful. Service is quick and friendly, with staff attentive to your food preferences and ready to offer suggestions. Vegetarian options are somewhat limited (apart from breakfast). We tried the fettuccine pasta with chicken and the huevos rancheros both were delicious. The outdoor seating area is also quite pleasant.

The customer service has been exceptional wherever we have been. This place is no exception, providing excellent service. The food was tasty and generous, and the location is great for dinner with a good variety of options.

A fun little outdoor/indoor vibe, CJ's really offered an eclectic menu with so many choices. My wife got herself the BBQ Kalua Pig Sliders while I got the famous Garlic Shrimp. Food was tasty and great portion size. Only reason for the missing star, was due to the lackluster service. My diet coke never came out. I did have water, but a different waitress had to come refill my cup.

One of our stops during the 2025 Oahu trip. We were here last night, but wanted to take in a little more from the shops at the Hilton. We ordered the Homemade Corned beef & Pastrami hash Benedict, the Kalua pig sliders and the Kalua pig Loco Moco. The dishes were flavorful and big. The attendant was timely and attentive. The open air dining area was comfortable and interesting.

This became our go to place for breakfast/lunch during our vacation, it was conveniently located in the Hilton Village properties. Great selection of both local and traditional favorites. We sat both outside and in. A lot of birds around but they never bothered us. (I did see one steal a fry from a guest but it was funny) staff very friendly, open bar and take out available.

I went into this restaurant with modest expectations but left thoroughly disappointed. The food quality was a letdown: the ham was squishy, the fruit tasted like it had been frozen, and a mushy grape was particularly unappetizing. The toast was burnt, though the egg was fine. Unfortunately, the lack of cleanliness was even worse. The salt and pepper shakers were dirty, the fans were caked with dust, and the countertops looked grimy, making the overall atmosphere uncomfortable and unhygienic. The only redeeming factor was the staff, who were polite and accommodating. However, there were service issues. We ordered pancakes but were mistakenly given French toast. It took another 15 minutes to receive the correct order. While they offered a free Shirley Temple for the inconvenience, it wasn't enough to improve the experience. Photos of the food and the visible dirt are attached for reference. If you value cleanliness and good food, I recommend steering clear of this place. Friendly staff can't compensate for the poor quality and hygiene issues.
