About
A Slice of Tokyo in the Heart of Honolulu
Finding a reliable spot for a quick, authentic Japanese meal in Honolulu often leads locals straight to Cherry Sushi & Bento. Tucked away from the bustling tourist corridors, this neighborhood staple captures the essence of a traditional bento house. The space is modest and utilitarian, prioritizing efficiency over flair, which means you might find yourself waiting a few extra minutes during the lunch rush as the kitchen meticulously packs boxes.
The Art of the Bento
The menu is a masterclass in Japanese comfort food, focusing heavily on high-quality, pre-packed, and made-to-order bento sets that have kept locals coming back for years. The signature katsu remains a standout, featuring a golden, crispy panko crust that shatters perfectly upon the first bite, revealing succulent pork inside. Their sushi rolls are consistently fresh, eschewing overly complicated sauces in favor of clean, balanced flavors that highlight the quality of the fish.
Why Locals Love It
This is the ideal destination for anyone seeking a low-key, high-value meal after a morning at the beach or a long shift downtown. The air inside carries the faint, comforting scent of seasoned vinegar and fried proteins. Be prepared for limited seating—this is largely a grab-and-go destination, and you will often see a steady stream of regulars rotating in and out with their plastic-wrapped treasures. If you value straightforward, no-nonsense Japanese fare that hits the mark without the pretense of high-end dining, Cherry Sushi & Bento offers one of the most reliable experiences in the city.

Very happy to finally have great toritake yakatori in Hawaii so we won't need to go to Japan! I'm not surprised that the NYC location has a Michelin star. The food, chicken, was excellent. Great flavors and perfectly prepared. Excellent service. Knowledgeable and attentive servers. Very good sake and drink selection. The sake we ordered paired perfectly with all the dishes. The chefs were friendly. They are still in soft opening mode, probably waiting to get everything perfect before being fully open, that's how you get a Michelin star 😉. We will definitely return.

Every skewer was cooked to perfection by the grill master. One of the best yakitori omakase experiences out there

👥 2 pax on weekday night, reservation must 🍽️ Omakase course, bottle of wine, glass wine, beer 💵 approx. $300 per person Excellent course with chicken cooked to perfection, inventive incorporation of local ingredients and non-chicken dishes (grilled eel, vegetables, and desserts were stellar). Store interior was spacious with a separate bar seating, overall very clean with plenty of counter seating, with friendly and engaging staff. At the end of the course you can opt to add a few more skewers—highly recommended if your appetite will allow for it. Any leftover rice from the end of the course can be wrapped up into onigiri rice balls to take home. Overall excellent experience, would definitely visit again.

A phenomenal addition to Ward Village in Kaka’ako. Bringing staff from their Michelin starred New York City restaurant, Torishin brings authentic Japanese Yakitori cooking and flavors. Opting for the tasting menu, I was greeted with nine delicious courses that were full of flavor and subtle nuance. The staff were welcoming and friendly, offering suggestions on the best spices to pair with each course or the best way to eat a course. The sake selection offered a variety of options to fit any palate. Choose the chef’s counter dining for the best experience and the optimum view of the chefs at work.

A perfect dining experience. All skewers cooked to perfection, and other dishes with so much thought and dedication you could obviously tell. The service is also super warm and detailed. Will definitely come back next time we visit. 10/10 recommend!

The first two courses had me questioning why I came there. The starters were bland and the chicken hearts were gamey. But the next few courses -- especially the chicken neck -- were tender and juicy. The best chicken I've ever been served. And the dessert sorbet was a great combo of flavors. Staff was very polite, friendly, and attentive. Don't think it was worth the price at the end tho.
