About
A Amidst Honolulu’s Hustle
Stepping into Charm in Honolulu offers a refreshing pivot from the typical tourist-heavy dining found throughout Waikiki. The space feels intimate, favoring a low-key, streamlined aesthetic that lets the culinary technique take center stage. If you appreciate a dining room that prioritizes conversation over chaotic background music, this is your spot.
The Culinary Approach
The menu focuses on elevated Asian fusion techniques that highlight local Hawaiian ingredients. Patrons often point toward their signature small plates, which balance bold heat with cooling, fresh herbs. You will smell the faint char of the grill before you even see your dish arrive, a hallmark of their open-concept kitchen flow. It is a thoughtful progression of textures—crispy, tender, and bright—designed for those who prefer to share a few items with friends rather than committing to a single heavy entree.
What to Expect
Keep in mind that the layout is compact, which contributes to the cozy, almost secretive energy of the room, though it does mean you will be fairly close to your neighbors. It is best suited for a quiet date night or a sophisticated meal before a night out in the city. The service is brisk and knowledgeable, focusing on efficiency without lingering over the table too long. While parking in this part of Honolulu can be a minor headache, the payoff is a meal that feels curated rather than mass-produced. Whether you are a local seeking a consistent weeknight haunt or a visitor looking to escape the resort crowds, this kitchen delivers consistent, high-impact flavor profiles.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The location is perfect, literally everything is in walking distance from the hotel. House cleaning is performed every other day . The bathrooms are outdated. If you plan to spend time in the city vs the room, this hotel is perfect for you!

The pictures on the website exactly represent what you’re gonna see when you get there which is not always the case. I mean, even down to the artwork in the rooms. The rooms are nice. The elevators are fast and efficient. The pool and hot …

The resort itself was great. The beds were hard, the pillows flat, and our dryer didn't dry our clothes which we didn't find out until midnight the day we left because we had been enjoying Maui and not babysitting the dryer. They were kind …

Manny at the front desk provided great service while we visited. Not a resort. Our booking method had the resort fee waived. More like a no frills hotel room. 4* is the price-adjusted rating. Pros: Complementary beach towels. Air conditioner works very well. Plenty of warm and hot water. Water refill station near the front desk provides great water. Mini-fridge in the room. Con: bathroom lacked a fan.

I had such an amazing time staying at Waikiki Malia. The location is absolutely perfect because it is super close to all the cool shops and a very short walk down to the beach. My room was really clean and cozy, and having a private balcony was awesome for chilling out at night. The pool area was a lot of fun to splash around in, and the staff were incredibly nice and always smiled when I walked by. I would definitely come back here again with my family.

I am beyond disappointed and utterly shocked by the treatment I received at this establishment. Historically, every single interaction I have ever had with Japanese individuals in the service industry has been defined by excellence, incredible politeness, and the highest standard of customer service. Because of this, my expectations were completely shattered by the appalling behavior of the staff here. The primary issue started right at the front desk. The older Japanese gentleman working there possesses what is hands-down the worst customer service attitude I have ever encountered in my life. He was dismissive, cold, and entirely unhelpful from the moment we crossed paths. To make matters significantly worse, upon entering the assigned room, we were hit with an overpowering, unacceptable stench. The room absolutely stunk, making it impossible to feel comfortable or get any decent rest. When I immediately went back to the front desk to politely report the issue and request a room change, the situation deteriorated even further. Instead of apologizing for the subpar, smelly room and facilitating a quick room swap—which is standard procedure at any respectable establishment—the request was flatly and rudely denied. To add insult to injury, they actually had the audacity to demand *extra* money just to move us to a clean, odor-free room. They wanted to penalize me financially for their own failure to maintain proper hygiene standards. This is an absolute scam and a complete disgrace to hospitality. I have never felt so ripped off, disrespected, and ignored as a paying guest. Avoid this place at all costs unless you want a foul-smelling room and front desk staff that treat you like an inconvenience rather than a customer.

I had such a wonderful stay here and truly felt taken care of from start to finish. The hotel itself was beautiful, clean, and comfortable, but what really stood out was how kind and thoughtful the staff were. I stayed during my birthday, and they surprised me with a special cookie flower arrangement that completely made my day. That level of detail and genuine hospitality is rare. Everyone I interacted with was warm, professional, and went out of their way to make sure I had a great experience. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place that feels welcoming, thoughtful, and truly special.
