About
A Slice of Sicily in the Heart of Waikiki
Stepping into Catania Ristorante Italiano, the immediate shift in atmosphere transports you from the humid tropical air of Honolulu into a grounded, rustic Mediterranean getaway. The air carries the distinct, sharp aroma of toasted garlic and slow-simmered marinara, cutting through the typical seaside saltiness of the neighborhood.
The Sicilian Culinary Tradition
This spot isn't just another pasta joint; it leans heavily into the culinary traditions of coastal Sicily. Chef-driven plates prioritize the simplicity of high-quality ingredients. You will find their signature arancini—golden-fried risotto balls stuffed with molten cheese and ragù—to be a mandatory starting point. Their pasta is cooked consistently to a firm al dente, capturing the authentic texture expected of a house-made kitchen.
Why Locals and Travelers Gather
The layout is intimate, which creates an energetic, buzzy environment perfect for date nights or celebratory dinners. If you are sensitive to noise, be prepared for the chatter that bounces off the hard surfaces, giving the room a lively, bustling echo reminiscent of an Italian piazza. While parking in this section of the city can be a game of patience, the reward is a menu that avoids the predictable tropes of generic Italian-American food.
The service is efficient and direct, mirroring the brisk pace of a city that never really sleeps. Whether you are craving a bold, Nero d'Avola wine to pair with a seafood-forward pasta or just a quiet corner to enjoy a tiramisu that isn't overly saccharine, this dining room offers a grounded, flavorful experience right in the middle of our vibrant island city.

They don't have a huge amount of space, but not little. The servers and the employees in general were really nice. I ordered the jambalaya and it tasted like spicy spaghetti. It wasn't the best.
