Buho Cocina y Cantina
About
A Rooftop Escape Above Waikiki
Perched high above the bustling streets of Waikiki, Buho Cocina y Cantina brings a high-energy Mexican escape to the heart of Honolulu. Stepping out of the elevator, the salt air immediately mingles with the scent of sizzling fajitas and fresh lime, while the open-air layout provides a clear view of the surrounding palms and the distant glow of the Waikiki skyline.
Savoring Modern Mexican Flavors
The kitchen leans into a blend of local island ingredients and traditional Mexican techniques. You will find their signature street corn, coated in a generous layer of cotija cheese and chili lime, frequently circling the room on busy nights. Their menu focuses on vibrant tacos—specifically the Baja-style fish options—and robust, house-made salsas that provide a sharp, fresh kick. Whether you are splitting a pitcher of their classic margaritas with a group or pulling up a chair at the bar for a quick bite, the atmosphere is loud, bright, and unapologetically social.
The Local Rhythm
It is important to keep in mind that the open-air design means the music can get quite boisterous as the sun sets and the local nightlife picks up. It is the perfect spot for those who prefer their dinner with a side of city energy rather than a quiet, candlelit affair. If you are heading here on a Friday or Saturday, expect a lively crowd and a bit of a wait for the best tables near the balcony railing. It is a quintessential stop for anyone looking to pair a Pacific breeze with bold, spicy flavors while staying right in the center of the Honolulu action.

Came here for a bite and a drink on a Sunday and can say the food and staff are great. Our waitress was wonderful. The quesadilla and wine I had were great. Would be a great place for a date or a group meal and drinks as I did.

The best Happy Hour ever in Waikiki, Honolulu. They have tacos ONLY for $2… also they have margarita ONLY for $7. Open air and rooftop atmosphere feels so nice. We will definitely come back.

Started off great with a guacamole dip. The fajitas were pretty average. Service was great but it lacked ambience on the night we went. It was very quiet. Quite pricey for what we had.

This restaurant was really nice and the food was tasty. Our server was Hannah, she was super sweet and even told us about Taco Tuesday. We told her e were visiting for my birthday. Then she surprised us with a birthday, it was super kind! The quesabirria taco were delicious. The guac is a MUST HAVE. We would definitely come back.

We ordered several dishes and two cocktails, a Porn Star Martini and a Cosmopolitan. I was pleasantly surprised that both the bartender and the waiter knew this cocktail, because in many places in the United States they usually have no idea what a Porn Star Martini is. The drinks were perfectly balanced and beautifully served. The atmosphere was very pleasant and cozy, we chose to sit outside on the terrace, and it was a great choice. The service was excellent, attentive and friendly from start to finish, which really added to the experience. The food itself was fine, not bad at all but also nothing extraordinary. It was an overall good experience, not wow but definitely enjoyable. I would say it is a nice place for dinner and cocktails with friends if you want a relaxed evening and a lively atmosphere.
