Broken Rice

My favorite restaurant on Oahu!!! We drive down from the North Shore just to go here. It’s literally the best. The food is amazing. The lemongrass chicken vermacelli, the beef rib stew, the shrimp summer rolls, and the lavender lemonade!!! The owner is sooo kind and generous and welcoming. Some of the best service on Oahu. We always leave feeling full and satisfied. I cannot recommend this place enough. Go find out - try your new favorite restaurant!!!

This is the best pho on the island! And yes I’ve tried lots of pho places here, this one by far takes 1st place. ORDER THE BEEF RIB PHO you won’t regret and the don’t get me started on how delicious the broth is! We also get the shaken beef always it’s so so ono! You gotta try it! Anything you order here will be delicious!

This place is soooo good!! The ambiance is super noce and clean. When our food came we could immediately tell it waa high-quality and tasted amazing. The people working here are super nice as well. Highly recommend.

This is honestly one of our favorite restaurants in the entire island. We drive across island just to come here. The food is absolutely amazing. We always get the shrimp summer rolls, chicken, lemongrass vermicelli, beef rib/brisket/oxtail, soups, and the spring rolls. 11 lemonade is delicious as well. The service is absolutely amazing and you can tell the owner who cares very much about his craft. It is also a amazing atmosphere and they have beautiful photography inside. Very clean and easy street parking right outside + a lot super close by. 10/10

Came here for a weekday lunch. Based on the reviews I had high expectations. Also there are many Vietnamese food choices in “Keep it Kaimuki” so I assume you need to be good to stay in business. I also like to support local small business so hats off to the couple who greeted us and hurried to the back where I assume they were busy in the kitchen. We decided to sample the rice platter (house combo), lemongrass chicken bun (vermicelli noodle bowl) and the bun Bo hue soup which is not the most common offering when going out for pho. Likes: variety of food offered on the rice combo platter, good beef flavor in the soup, tender beef in pho. Could be better: marinade for the barbecue pork/chicken (salty) spring rolls and/or sauce could have more seasoning or be served with more veggies/pickles, fresh veggies for pho we’re small in quantity and old (picked off browning parts of bean sprouts), accuracy in description of menu items and what gets served (I was looking forward to the wide flat rice noodle).

Yes, they’re still open. They’re a small Vietnamese restaurant with especially good rice. If you have “rice” in your name, you’d better have good rice. They do. The rice is soft and fluffy rather than sticky, but holds enough to come as a big scoop on your dish. The dishes themselves are well crafted. You can tell there’s a real chef behind the scenes who ensures the quality of the food. All in all, it’s a nice quiet spot for good food in Waialae.

This crab soup special from broken rice easily makes my “top 3 best things I’ve eaten” on this trip. We went to The Pig and the Lady the day before, which is the Vietnamese restaurant everyone recommended to us and both of us loved broken rice more. The crab broth is so aromatic (I poured it in the bowl post-first photo - swipe right to see the after shot). There’s rice vermicelli noodles, fresh crab, Vietnamese ham, tofu, tomato and homemade meatballs with pork and crab 😍😍😍 I recommend getting their coconut tapioca (che) for dessert 😋😋😋

Menu is a little smaller than a standard Vietnamese restaurant but dishes were good. The noodle dishes have an interesting take on the broths. Had the pork chops but next time I think I'll do the oxtail noodle dish. Pate was also tasty. Parking available either in the metered stalls directly behind the restaurants or the lot next door (where Big City Diner and Happy Day are) is a paid lot that charges via a ticket so you don't have to feed the meters.
