A Haven for Beer Enthusiasts in Kaimuki

Stepping into Brew'd Craftpub, the first thing you notice is the rhythmic hum of locals debating the rotating draft list. Tucked away in the vibrant Kaimuki neighborhood of Honolulu, this spot ditches the kitschy tiki aesthetic for a raw, industrial-cool interior that feels like a genuine neighborhood hangout. The space is dimly lit and energetic, making it a favorite for after-work unwind sessions where the conversation often grows as loud as the music.

The Liquid Gold of the Pacific

Brew'd stands out by curating one of the most thoughtful craft beer lineups in the state. You will find rare, hard-to-find kegs from both mainland boutique breweries and local Hawaiian producers. The scent of hop-forward IPAs and roasted malts hangs in the air, pairing perfectly with their kitchen’s focus on elevated pub comfort food. Their signature truffle fries and high-quality burgers are designed to soak up the suds, and the menu avoids the usual deep-fried shortcuts found at typical taverns.

The Local Pulse

While the atmosphere is welcoming, be prepared for a minor logistical quirk: parking in this pocket of Honolulu can be a tight squeeze, so arrive early or prepare to walk a block or two. It’s worth the effort for the chance to chat with staff who actually know the origin of every beer on tap. Whether you are a dedicated hop-head or just looking for a solid meal in a no-nonsense environment, Brew'd offers an authentic slice of Honolulu’s modern beer culture that feels far removed from the tourist-heavy districts.

Came at a low point in the day I think, just the bartender was out front running the whole show, only 2 others there when I first arrived. But she was wonderful! Even worked with the kitchen so I could get chicken and waffles since I arrived right at the end of the brunch. After a series of hikes in the morning I’m grateful to her and the staff for making that happen since I was craving that! So awesome service! The restaurant was clean and had a good playlist on at a reasonable volume so people could talk and not yell. The bar and drinks looked great too but it was a little early for myself to partake. The food was delicious, I also got the fries on the appetizers which were cooked to perfection and flavorful. My chicken with the waffles was also delicious! They drizzled it in something, maybe hot honey, and that was a great twist. My waffles were ok, personally I’m a crispy waffle person and since they weren’t that crispy that’s my only complaint. But they were still cooked appropriately, with a good portion that left me full but not stuffed. It was great eating chicken and waffles that didn’t feel heavy, so strongly recommend trying them at brunch. Maybe show up sooner than I did though. Would recommend! Need to come back and try a drink!

I wanted to like this place, but it fell short unfortunately. To start, the parking lot is tiny and many of the stalls are reserved for employees. You will likely have to use expensive metered parking instead. Service was friendly, but kind of slow. In general, prices are high for the portion size, even during happy hour. It wasn’t too bad for the truffle fries or Szechuan cauliflower, but it was quite bad for the steak flatbread (especially since the “flatbread” part looked and tasted like a naan from Costco). Taste was good for the fries, but mediocre for the cauliflower and flatbread. The variety of beer on tap was good, but again prices were higher than expected for happy hour.

The food was excellent (the truffle fries may be the best we have ever eaten) and the service was also great. I had the fish tacos and my wife the chicken club. The only complaint was the smell inside. We did want to sit outside but they didn't have service available then. The inside had a faint smell of garbage, or something like that which was very unpleasant. I got used to it but my wife didn't. We would go back but would definitely want to sit outside.

First time here was pretty good, but for a Wednesday night...not too busy. Was able to grab a table. Though the table and bench area had quite a bit of food crumbs. Not one cleaned unfortunately. Service was okay, tried to flag our waitress from time to time...for a long and narrow restaurant it's pretty hard to get missed. Lol For drinks, they have a wide variety of beer, so you can definitely find something that interest you. I wasn't too interested that night, got the dragon something cider. It was light and delicious. Easy to drink. Bar food was delicious. Our group got the Brussel spouts, fish and chips, truffle fries, and blacken fish sliders. All were good. What stood out, but i forgot to take a picture of it was the pickles. Rather than fried, we got it, not fried (lol not sure how else to say it 😅) and it was surprisingly delicious. Slightly sour with heat from the chili or habanero and crunchy. The blacken fish sliders was my next favorite to eat. Savory and had a nice char, I'm definitely ordering it again. I definitely recommend this place over Off The Wall for craft beers and definitely a contender to hana koa brewery (second floor).
