A Neighborhood Staple for Local Flavors

Tucked away from the bustling tourist corridors of Waikiki, Bo's Kitchen has become a go-to spot for those seeking honest, unpretentious cooking in Honolulu. The space carries a distinct, laid-back energy that feels like a backyard gathering, characterized by the persistent clatter of metal pans and the savory, caramelized aroma of shoyu-marinated proteins drifting through the open doorway.

The Culinary Approach

At its core, this kitchen champions the kind of home-style island cooking that defines local dining. The menu highlights classic plate lunch traditions, featuring generous portions of tender kalua pork and perfectly fried chicken katsu. You will often see regulars drifting in for their signature gravy-smothered loco moco, a heavy, soul-satisfying dish that hits the spot after a morning in the surf.

What to Expect

The atmosphere is strictly casual—think fluorescent lighting and modest seating that favors function over flash. It is an ideal stop for a quick, high-protein lunch or a relaxed dinner when you want to avoid the wait times of larger, more commercial establishments. Be prepared for the reality of urban island living: parking can be a challenge during the peak lunch rush, and the acoustics can get quite lively when the small room is at full capacity. Despite the tight quarters, the service remains efficient, focused on getting steaming trays of food to patrons without unnecessary ceremony. If you are exploring the local dining scene and want a genuine look at what residents eat on a Tuesday, this kitchen offers a straightforward, flavor-first experience.

Got delivered my food. And was surprised to find that there were no forks or chopsticks included. Were you expecting me to eat it with my hands? I could have managed that, but there weren't even any napkins in the bag. To make matters worse, the chicken and rice dish contained only a few small pieces of chicken. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place based on the quality of the food and the lack of basic takeout utensils.

I don't even know where to start. Basically I got food. Poisoned. It was June 10th Wednesday night around 8ish 9ish. I was getting hungry and finally tried Bo's kitchen. I've been in Oahu honolulu for a year and a couple months and I always eat out. Nothing ever happened. I mean I don't get poisoned. Anyway, I ordered the Hainanese chicken I thought it was really good and I even told the server. It was like a hug so I wanted to order something take out in case I get hungry late night like always. I wanted to order the chow fun but she said they ran out of it and she suggested for me to get the fried noodles so I did and I ordered the tofu and vegetables vegetable one. The next day I got nausea. I'm pooping water throwing up the noodles but no chicken came out. It was all noodles. I was in bed for the last 3-4 days I miss work and it's the worst feeling I've ever felt. I don't know if I should sue them. I really don't want to cause any trouble in the community but this is horrible. They made me hate Chinese food. If there's anyone else out there that got sick that day please let me know and we can file a suit. I forgot to take the receipt but I have proof that I ordered food from there. This is really horrible.

After living in Honolulu for almost a year and actively trying many different Chinese food, I can for sure said that there are 2 Chinese Restaurants tvmhat are really good, one of them is Bo's Kitchen. Not only they are very inexpensive, easy parking, great staffs, but most importantly VERT GOOD!! They are always packed... Really fortunate to find this restaurant. Their Laksa is very very good, and everything I tried was always good... HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Food: authentic Chinese noodles, got the laksa with beef and the coconut seafood soup hit the spot! Also got the wonton fun with beef brisket. the wonton is plump and tasty. The brisket was a little dry, should be a fattier cut if beef. Also got a milk tea and a coffee milk drink. Service: on point, was greeted and seated with a smile Atmosphere: clean and bright

Will be coming back for their Hot and Sour Vermicelli Chicken Soup. The taste, noodle texture. Wow! 👌🏻 Sorry, the pic is of a half-eaten bowl of soup, I dug into it too eagerly.. 😅 …

If tofu jajangmyeon existed, Bo’s Kitchen’s mabo tofu noodles would be it. I ordered it with extra noodles and extra wontons, and it became a seriously hearty bowl. I’m already biased toward mabo tofu, but this one felt special. The sauce was thick, dark, and meaty, coating the noodles almost like jajang sauce while still keeping that mabo tofu flavor. The soft tofu, rich sauce, and wontons made it filling in the best way. It is not exactly jajangmyeon, but it gave me that same deep, savory comfort, just with a spicier tofu-forward twist.

Well the price is reasonable and the taste was OK. It’s something that Honolulu restaurants do not offer albeit these are casual Chinese foods readily available in many places in Asia. I enjoyed the dumplings. The spicy wonton were however overcooked. The scallion cake was a bit overly fried. But do try it and see if you like them for yourself.

Visited multiple times, they offer the best pork dumpling in town with freshly made skin and fills. Tastes really good! Chicken dumpling as well as wonton tasty too! The chicken gizzard and pig ear not bad with proper seasonings. The rice noodle in laksa was okay only. It smells like laksa but doesn't taste like one, esp the texture of the rice noodle is not right, based on my years' experience in Singapore. Overall, a very nice place to have really good dumpling!

Loved my quick takeout lunch here. Online order is super easy and it's great for skipping the waiting lines. The Hainan style chicken was very satisfying and a solid portion to bring on the post-lunch snoozes. Only thing I could have wanted was a spicy chili sauce with it- otherwise it comes with shoyu, ginger oil and sweet chili sauce. The braised gizzards were tasty too :)

Just landed from LA and headed straight to Bo’s Kitchen on Oahu. We’re thrilled that we could enjoy such a delicious meal after 9 pm. This was the first place we visited upon arrival, and it did not disappoint. The food was fantastic, with a wide variety of tasty options. There's also free parking, which is a huge plus. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. Service was quick and efficient, and the quality of the food was top-notch. Highly recommend Bo’s Kitchen for a late-night bite or any meal of the day. We’ll definitely be back! 💕🍜
