A Slice of Italy Near Waikiki Beach
When you step into Bocconcino, the bustling energy of Honolulu fades into the background, replaced by the inviting aroma of simmering pomodoro and toasted garlic. This intimate spot captures the essence of a traditional trattoria, making it an ideal retreat for those craving genuine Italian hospitality after a long day of navigating the Waikiki shoreline.
Hand-Crafted Traditions
The kitchen prides itself on elevating simple, high-quality ingredients. Their signature house-made pasta is the star of the show, prepared with a firm al dente bite that holds up perfectly to their robust, slow-cooked meat sauces. You will often hear the rhythmic clatter of pans and the hum of spirited conversation as local regulars and visitors alike gather around the wooden tables to share plates of antipasti.
A Local Perspective
The atmosphere leans into a cozy, unpretentious aesthetic, perfect for a low-key date night or a relaxed dinner with friends. While the seating area is compact, which can lead to a lively, high-energy volume during peak weekend dinner hours, it only adds to the authentic European social dining experience. If you happen to visit on a busy evening, the close quarters mean you might strike up a conversation with your neighbor, a hallmark of the charmingly tight-knit layout here.
Why Visit?
Whether you are looking for a glass of crisp Italian wine to pair with a rustic plate of gnocchi or simply seeking a reliable spot that avoids the overly tourist-heavy traps of the main strip, this bistro delivers. It is a reliable destination for diners who appreciate a focus on technique over flash, grounding your evening in the quiet, delicious rhythm of a neighborhood favorite.

Authentic Italian ingredients and house made cheeses are the keys to their delicious paninis and pizzas. I highly recommend dropping in to try out this hidden gem for an authentic Italian feel and true Neapolitan Pizzas

What an amazing spot! You can tell it is authentic. I cannot wait to come back. Highly recommend the tiramisu and the il bolognese panini. Sitting near the pizza oven outside is such a great experience.

Bocconcino is IT. The sandwiches and pizza literally transported us back to Italy 🇮🇹🔥 You can’t beat a classic caprese, and the pizza at the next table looked absolutely insane. This spot is a must every time we island hop from Kauai. And the owner? Absolute legend!!

We really enjoyed our sandwich today! We got the Il Bolognese. The pistachio nut spread in there was to die for! So much so, I wanted to buy some but they only make it for the sandwich! The bread was soo good too! $23 and very much worth it considering the quality of ingredients. We went there around 3:50p and browsed around the shop. Eventually ordered at 3:57p and got our sandwich at 4:08p. They take your number and text you when it’s ready. Everyone there was also very nice. The girl explained all the different sandwich and options. We also go to chat with the owner. Very nice and down to earth. Hope to come back again soon and try their pizzas and coffees.

Saw Bocconcino on instagram and had to give it a try. Ordered the il Parma sandwich and margherita clasica pizza. The seating outdoors is very fun and you can watch the pizzas getting cooked. Everything tasted very fresh and I would go back in a heartbeat! I felt like I met a celebrity which was an added perk!

Neat store and very little seating for eating. Hardly any parking so consider yourself lucky if you get one of the 5 spots in front!! It's in an industrial area and no parking around so plan to walk a couple blocks. Food was delicious and fixed fresh. If you want fast, go for the ready made pizza, otherwise plan for 20-30 for a sandwich. Best to order ahead. All the pastas and sauces and wines are imported from Italy. Very fun to shop while waiting.

I was really looking forward to an outstanding lunch. Unfortunately, this wasn't it. For a cheese shop, this sandwich was severely lacking cheese. I've been here multiple times before so I was prepared for the lack of parking, hostile neighborhood, and high prices, but the product does not justify the effort.

Recommended by a local friend. Hyped it up so much. Definitely lived up to it. Honestly, it might even be better than the mortadella sandwich I got from the famous All'Antico Vinaio in Florence. Very big portions too.

I went to get a sandwich from this place, which is super popular with the locals. I placed my order through DoorDash, and the pickup time was 40 minutes, but when I arrived a little early at 30 minutes, my order was just ready, which was perfect. I also picked up a few truffle products they had inside the store. The outdoor patio was bustling with people eating their food or waiting for their orders. The cheese here is amazing, so next time, I definitely want to try their pizza.

If you’re craving an authentic Italian sandwich or pizza made with in-house crafted cheese, Bocconcino Hawaii is an absolute must-visit. I tried the Bolognese Sandwich with pistachio cream—flavorful, rich, and truly unique. The Salsiccia Porcini Pizza was another standout, perfectly balanced with earthy mushrooms and savory sausage. The quality of ingredients and attention to detail really shine here. It’s rare to find Italian food this good in Hawaii. Highly recommend for anyone looking for something beyond the ordinary!
